Editor's Notes
It’s exciting to think about all the possibilities for quality improvement within our programs when we begin to focus on these strategies.
Even before Obama spoke in support of Early childhood education in his recent address to the nation, there have been several initiatives at the Federal level to improve quality. Support for Head Start has been stronger in the last few years and the information that has been released to the field concerning brain development research – for example, Neurons to Neighborhoods, point our that young children benefit from quality early education programs.
In addition, because of longitudinal studies that focus on particular children from
Ongoing….
On going….Providing on-going opportunities to learn through trainings and classes, hands-on support through mentoring and coaching and
Competitive compensation commensurate with their education and experience is another ingredient of the quality equation
This map tells an important story. Notice how many states have a statewide QRIS, and how many others have completed pilots or are planning a QRIS.
Readiness:-Participating sites will want to make quality improvements consistent with the Quality Continuum Framework and have systems in place to make use of training and technical assistance.
How will sites be selected?
In the 1st round , however, sites will be invited to apply.
It is anticipated that the
second round will begin in
January 2014, in which any
program that is serving
a high percentage of children defined as “high needs” can apply.
For programs/sites that apply and are selected
Explain that contact info will be shared on final slide
What If I Don’t Want to Apply, End Up on the Waiting List or Do Not Meet the Criteria for QRIS?
