“CCTV (closed-circuit television)”, is a TV system in which signals are not publicly distributed but are monitored,
primarily for surveillance and security purposes. CCTV relies on strategic placement of cameras, and observation
of the camera's input on monitors somewhere, because cameras transfer recorded content to monitors and video
recorders through private coaxial cable, Ethernet cable or wireless communication links.
Most basic type of CCTV system includes analog and digital CCTV systems. These two systems can be
differentiated on the basis of signal transmission method. The analog system delivers information in the form of
analog signal, through coaxial cable and then later these signals are converted as per the requirement of the
receiver. Whereas, an IP based system also known as network based system uses digital camera, which digitizes
the video signals through a specialized encoder that has an onboard web server, thus allowing IP system to
transmit videos within the existing network , and as well as through web browser.
Signals transmitted by analog systems are over coaxial cable, so their bandwidth is not much of an issue whereas
signals transmitted by IP system are over a network which require dynamic bandwidth.
