Brian Fisher: Morning Kyle, I have been applying for sales jobs and feel that the skill and experience I have gained is transferrable to other industries. The reason for this confidence is that a few years ago I moved from construction to financial services and found the skills gained put me ahead of others. Is that likely to still be the case or do recruiters only look at the last few years and say that is the industry you have been in that is the one you are only able to stay in. As many recruiters may not have moved industries themselves and it is an easier sale to find someone who is already in that industry rather than looking outside the box at someone who could bring a fresh pair of eyes am I going to find it a harder move? Kyle Nimmo: I think it is great that your skills transferred easily from one industry to another. It is not an easy step to make and one which could be questioned by the recruiter. As long as you highlight that you exceeded expectations from your last transfer of industry and met or exceeded your goals then it would seem foolish on behalf of the recruiter to not take your application seriously. Brian Fisher: I have had replies saying my skills did not match their clients requirements. I get the impression they only look at the current position and do not look at the bigger picture. I think I will have to put my thinking cap on and see how those benefits can be explained. Kyle Nimmo: As long as you clearly state your successful transition in your personal statement then recruiters must take this into consideration.
