Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

1. Pursue Higher And
Deeper Things of Life!
Every individual living under the sun
goes through different life’s seasons for
a divine purpose. There are times of
embrace and rejection too. Whenever
you are rejected, demeaned or despised
by men, rejoice! It is a golden oppor-
tunity for you to pursue the higher and deeper things of life. The
biddings of God don’t come shouting but gently. His hands are
wide open to receive us back to Himself. The world spews those
who are destined for eternal greatness in order to crush their spir-
its and thwart their visions and aspirations. Just soldier on, never
give up! Hold no grudges. Un-forgiveness would derail you!
2. What matters most is one’s response to such treatment. The
world has a tendency to scramble for tangible things. Has it been
dawned to them that the unseen things are more powerful with
eternal perspective? Have you ever seen electric current passing
through a cable? Ignore it and see the effects. You must believe
that it is there otherwise you will be electrocuted if you tamper
with it.
According to Jesus, the WORD OF GOD finds centre stage in
everything since creation. He declared: “Heaven and earth will
pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.” Luke 21:33. -
NKJV. You may lose everything that you really
treasured but one thing that has everlasting as-
surance is God’s Word. There is no glory that
would be compared to it. The Word of God is JE-
SUS Who is GOD Himself (God the Son).
Dead Sea Scrolls
3. Have you been rejected? Despised? Demeaned? Just dust your-
self off and continue with the journey. There is One who values
you! In Christ Jesus, victory in every area of everyone’s life is guar-
anteed!
Jesus is the same yesterday, to-
day and forever. Heb.13:8. The
same words spoken by Jesus more
than 2000 years ago have the same
power that it had then. You can
trust Him to change all the facul-
ties of your life for the better. He
continues to assure us with this solemn invitation:
4. “Come to Me, all you who labor and are
heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My
yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am
gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find
rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and
My burden is light.” Mat. 11:28-30.-NKJV
When Jesus speaks, never doubt His Word. God cannot lie. He
declares, "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing.
The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” John
6:63. NKJV
God is so concerned with our Eternal Destiny than our tempo-
rary earthly pleasures and glories. In Mark 8:36, Jesus posed this
question, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole
world, and lose his own soul?”
