The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, will provide insight into new directions in targeted therapeutic approaches for older adults with mantle cell lymphoma.
STATEMENT OF NEED
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare, aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) accounting for 5% to 7% of all lymphomas. Its prognosis ranges from indolent disease that does not require treatment for years to very aggressive disease, which is associated with poor survival (Silkenstedt et al, 2021). Typically, MCL is diagnosed at advanced stage and in older patients who cannot tolerate intensive therapy (NCCN, 2022). Although recent advances have slightly increased remission rates, recurrence and relapse remain very common, leading to a median overall survival between 3 and 6 years (LLS, 2021). Though there are several effective options, progress is still needed towards establishing an accepted frontline approach for MCL (Castellino et al, 2022). Treatment selection and management of MCL are complicated by the heterogeneity of prognosis, advanced age and comorbidities of patients, and lack of an established standard approach for treatment, making it vital that clinicians be familiar with the latest research and advances in this area. In this activity chaired by Michael Wang, MD, Professor in the Department of Lymphoma & Myeloma at MD Anderson Cancer Center, expert faculty will discuss prognostic factors informing treatment, the promising results of recent trials in new therapeutic approaches, and the implications of treatment resistance in therapeutic selection for MCL.

you start to criticize? Unfortunately the harsh reality is both; it’s simply human nature.
As you start to know this person you will learn that her name is Shelly, a 21 year old junior at the
University of Louisville. Not only has she grown up with very little friends, and bullied all her life, but she
is also suffering from sleep apnea (a breathing condition) and type II diabetes. I have been fortunate to
know Shelly for 5 years now and I can tell you that a day in the life of an unhealthy, obese individualis
not only hard in regards to a social life, but a constant fight for your life in regards to health issues.
As the clinical director for a local medical company I havehad the opportunity to work with patients like
Shelly on a daily basis. Over the last few years I have spent a lot of my time coaching these individuals on
several aspects of life: Healthy eating, physical fitness and emotional support in attempts to get them on
the right track towards living a healthy and long lasting life.

twice a week (which doesn’t seem like a lot) can make you gain up to 10 pounds and
increase your chances of developing insulin resistance and in turn lead to diabetes
and obesity.
3. B. There are many other truths to be told about the ingredients being used in your fast
food.
1. Animal byproducts are used to make volume.
a. These by products include: Animal heads, eyes, hearts, lungs, kidney, brains,
and liver as an example.
b. If this is not enough to stop you from eating fast food then there’s a good
chance that you can encounter some potentially serious issues in the future.
2. Byproduct and chemicals aren’t the only extra ingredients found in fast food.
a. An “amino acid” used for added protein value L-Cysteine, is also used in
most fast food meat products. L-Cysteine if you didn’t know is commonly
found in human hair.
b. In addition, in his online article “4 fast food ingredients way worse than
horse meat” published February 5th 2013. Anthony Gucciardireveals that
Burger King, one of the biggest fast food chains in America was using horse
meat in their whoppers.
Transition to second main point: Now that I have grossed you out with the reality of what’s in your fast
food, I will give you some of the health risks associated with your poor eating habits.

Matthew Lee states in his online journal article “ Statistics of Health Risks from eating Fast
Food” Published in the August 2010 issue of Healthy Living that there are several diseases
associated to eating fast food.
A. The most commonly diseases associated with fast food are coronary heart disease and
type II diabetes.
4. 1. Lee states that in addition to the two most common diseases there are many others
such as: hypertension, gall bladder disease, reproductive hormone abnormalities,
congestive heart disease and even certain types of cancer.
2. Most people do not correlate their health issues to their eating habits which is
making it even harder to properly diagnosepotential health risks.
3. In the end, according to Wendy McElroy in her online blog titled “Supersized
Statistics” published May 4th 2005 there are 400,000 yearly deaths associated to fast
food and poor eating habits.
Transition to thirds main point:Seeing as you are now well aware of the facts, I think it’s time to give
you two easy solutions that will help eliminate the risks associated with eating fast unhealthy food.

First and foremost we need to learn that there ARE easy and convenient foods other than
your quick drive through burgers.
A. According to the online journal article, “America’s top 10 Healthiest Fast Food
Restaurants”, written by Tracey Minkin published in the February 2009 issue of Health
there is such a thing as a HEALTHY fast food restaurant.
1. The top 3 restaurants included: Panera Bread, Jason’s Deli, and Noodles and
company.
2. Overall, the top 3 restaurants combined have over 1,600 locations within the US,
meaning there is one near YOU!
3. In addition to “healthy” driven restaurants you always have the option of buying
healthy food and preparing meals in advance.
B. Eating right is not the only method towards a healthy lifestyle, exercise is a big part of it
too!
5. 1. Start by walking at least 15 minutes a day.
2. This is easily done during a lunch break (I know you take one!)
a. If your lunch break is short, (30 min or so), instead of driving to the drive
through, bring in a prepared healthy meal, eat in in 15 minutes, and walk the
other 15.
b. If you have time to go on social media, it’s possible you may have time to join a
gym.
C. I would like to stress the fact that the positive benefits from making the above listed
changes will impact your life as you get older, and since 65% of you in this class have
children I can conclude that you want to live long enough to watch them grow.
a. As the role models for your children you must set standards, and be the leading
force to proper eating and a healthy lifestyle.
I am completely convinced that at this point you understand how bad fast food truly is and how you
need to change your eating habits and address this issue immediately.
In all, I have given you facts in regards to the type of chemicals, and supplemental parts used in your
juicy hamburgers; in addition I have also provided you a few examples of some death-potential diseases
which are linked to eating fast food, and lastly I gave you 2 very easy alternatives to help you live a
healthy life.
I would like conclude with reminding you of what you are eating 2 times a week every time you go
through that Mcburger Drive through: Cow brains, Heart chunks, eye balls, and some phosphate. Hope
it takes good, because your next meal may be your last.
