PUPPY SCAMS PART II

T Cup the Real Deal or Real
             Scam
 http://www.delayrekennel.com
What is a T Cup
 They are toy breed dogs bred smaller than the breed standard.
They are usually just runts of the litter.
 Many are prone to health concerns, including brittle bones, liver
shunts, hydrocephalus, heart disease and hypoglycemia.
 Other names, pocket pet, baby doll, teeny, and in Shih Tzus the
    Imperial
 Breeds bred down in size include Yorkshires, Maltese, Shih Tzu,
    Pomeranians, Chihuahuas and there mixes.
Quotes from the breed clubs
 Am. Shih Tzu Club : A responsible breeder does not advertise an occasional "runt"
as an "imperial" or "tiny teacup" Shih Tzu. Rather, it is sold as a pet, solely as a
companion dog that is not to be used for breeding. Responsible breeders strive to
breed healthy dogs that conform to the breed standard. The ideal Shih Tzu is a
sturdy, active, healthy dog with good substance for its size. Those desiring a very tiny
pet should choose another breed rather than destroying the very characteristics that
make the Shih Tzu such an ideal companion
 Chihuahua Club of America : Teacup, Pocket Size, Tiny Toy, Miniature or
Standard - are just a few of the many tags and labels that have been attached to this
breed over the years. The Chihuahua Club of America is concerned that these terms
may be used to entice prospective buyers into thinking that puppies described in this
way are of greater monetary value. They are not and the use of these terms is
    incorrect and misleading
 Yorkshire Terrier Club Of America (Code of Ethics) 8) A member's
advertising: -shall be professional in appearance and location; -may refer to YTCA
membership but may not misuse YTCA membership to attempt to enhance integrity
or the quality of stock; -shall not contain any misleading photograph or other graphic
materials; -shall not use terms such as "teacup", "tiny specialists", "doll faced", or
    similar terminology
Marketing the T Cup
 Many times pictures posted are of puppies around 5 weeks of age they
lead you to believe they are much older and will be very tiny when full
grown. Most will grow to normal size. You will pay for a puppy that they tell
you will weigh 2 lbs full grown, when in fact it will be 6 lbs or more.
 They photograph them next to soda cans, cell phones, etc. to give the
impression that they are very tiny. The angle of the shot can make a large
puppy looks smaller. Pictured are of two of my 8 week old Silky Terrier
puppies. They weigh 2½ to 3 lbs. Their adult weight will be 8 to 9 lbs. Don’t
    be fooled by camera angles.
 My breed is the Silky Terrier often confused with the Yorkshire. As a rule the
Silky Terrier is not a breed peddled as a T Cup .
If you really want one
 Don’t buy a puppy under 8 months of age
 Get a 1yr written health guarantee
 Get an adult weight size money back guarantee. Your main concern
when purchasing is the tiny size. If the breeder is so sure it will stay
at the weight they stated to get you to buy the puppy this should be
no problem. Good weight is when you are able to feel the ribs, not
see a tummy and puppy has a waist.
 Always see at least one of the parents and make sure it is born in
the USA and registered with a reputable registry (see puppy scams
    part 1)
 Never buy without seeing the puppy in the flesh (not a photo)
 Have the puppy checked by your Veterinarian within 48 hours.
 Never meet the seller anyplace but their place
 If you can pay by credit card
Be Aware
 These puppies are not special they are runts .
 Children under 10 should not have one. They are very delicate. Just
dropping a puppy can seriously injure or kill the puppy . Can you imagine
how horrible it would be for the child.
 Their bodies are extremely fragile. They must be protected from cold, heat,
being stepped on and falling .
 Make sure they eat at least 4 small meals. Many are hypoglycemic .
 Ask your Veterinarian his opinion of dogs this small
 Be aware of genetic problems. In runts they are more likely to occur.
    http://www.upei.ca/~cidd/intro.htm
 Small puppies can occur in all bloodlines A responsible breeder will not sell
the puppy until at least 6 months and usually will alter the puppy prior to
sale to make sure it is not bred and that it makes it through the surgery.
