The Raid on Mill Creek Mine, Part Two -
Dynamite
First of all, let's start by stating that not all of breeding kennels are puppy mills. There
are many responsible breeders out there who take great care at the breeding of the
dogs and dogs. These individuals are not the target of the report. The purpose of this
article is to help enlighten the general public about the horrors of puppy mills and to
urge people to educate themselves before deciding where to purchase a puppy.
What is a puppy mill? A puppy mill is basically a business which mass-produces
puppies to sell across the internet, at auctions, flea markets, or to pet shops, brokers,
etc.. The most important objective of a puppy mill is to make money. For this reason,
there is little concern or care for the animals involved.
Physical conditions at puppy mills are often enough to make most people sick. The
breeding females are usually kept in small, cramped cages with hardly any human
contact. Often, the sole handling they receive is demanding at best and abusive at
worst. The breeding inventory and the dogs are kept in wire cages which are rarely, if
ever cleaned, forcing the dogs and puppies to live in their own excrement.
It is not strange for the living quarters to be exposed to the elements. Many puppy
mills that have been researched have had young dogs in wire cages out in sub-freezing
temperatures with insufficient bedding to keep them warm. In the summertime,
puppies and puppies kept in metal cages with no venting can literally cook to
departure. Are these the sort of conditions you would like your future puppy increased
in?
The physical health of these animals is not of any more concern to the owners of the
puppy mill compared to the living conditions are. Many times, the breeding females
are bred in their first heat cycle and each cycle then till they're no longer able to breed.
These poor dogs are bred to death. What happens when a female is no longer
profitable? They're disposed of.
These individuals are in this for money, so they aren't likely to feed a dog that is no
longer earning cash. There is rarely proper vet care for those creatures - out of date
vaccinations, if they're given in any way, animals which have tumors or go blind are
retained, without medical care so long as they can produce offspring. There's little if
any consideration for the genetic defects that in-breeding or breeding carelessly may
cause. This often produces puppies that have many health problems later in life.
Of even less concern to the puppy mill breeder is your mental and psychological
health of these animals. Many puppies obtained from a puppy mill are taken away
from their mom and littermates too soon, causing behavioral and fear problems. These
dogs could be fearful of people or other animals, acting aggressively from fear to
safeguard themselves. These dogs usually end up in shelters or being euthanized by
owners that do not know what else to do with a puppy they can't control.
What should you do if you believe you've found a puppy mill with deplorable
conditions and sickly animals? First, report it to the local animal control facility, law
enforcement bureau and humanist society. If you don't report it, then nothing will
change. Among the most important items to consider, and perhaps the hardest rule to
stick by, is Do not risk undermining the evaluation of this puppy mill by providing
food, bedding, water, etc. to the creatures until the authorities inform you that it is
okay to do so. Many puppy millers have escaped prosecution since some well-
meaning person has supplied these things to the animals before the police arrive. By
waiting until the correct time to assist the animals, you'll have a better chance of
helping them lasting, instead of just temporarily providing relaxation and permitting
the pet miller to keep on subjecting them to the terrible conditions day after day.
There are several things you can do to help stop puppy mills. One of the greatest
things you could do is to adopt a dog from a rescue group or shelter. If you are set on
a purebred dog, remember there are many breed rescue groups that specialize in a
specific breed, and purebreds end up in the neighborhood shelter just like mixed breed
dogs. If you truly want to buy a puppy, do the research and make certain you are
purchasing from a respectable breeder. Never buy from a pet shop that sells animals,
the guy in the neighborhood supermarket parking lot or flea markets. If you are
buying a puppy, you should be able to see at the mother and you should be able to
inspect the living conditions of those critters.
As much as you want to rescue a puppy from such conditions, you're creating demand
for exactly what the puppy miller is generating, thereby perpetuating the puppy mill
problem. When you buy a puppy mill pup, you are supporting the puppy mill
company and forcing the mature dogs into a gloomy life of being swallowed over and
over again in bad living conditions.
You can help stop puppy mills even when you aren't ready to bring a new puppy into
your life. You can write letters to your state and national legislators to let them know
that you support laws to protect pets and humanist regulations. It is possible to
compose a letter to the editor of your paper fixing your concerns and to educate the
general public concerning the connection between puppy mills and pet shops. You can
remind your friends to use care when choosing a breeder to buy from and assist
investigate responsible breeders.
This article was written with the purpose of informing people on the difference
between an excellent kennel along with a puppy mill. I urge anyone who's in the
process of purchasing a puppy to go to and to see the way the kennel operation will be
conducted prior to making any type of transaction. Many kennels in operation would
be what we call "puppy mills" when it should be called "puppy prison".
For decades, tens of thousands of dogs and puppies have been tortured, locked up in
little cages with hardly enough food to live let alone healthcare. The majority of the
time that a puppy mill will contain of several distinct breeds but it is not uncommon
for a puppy mill to comprise of a single breed. The adult dogs are malnourishly bred
with no focus on the health of the puppy repeatedly, until they stop producing, high
enough quantities of dogs or die/be murdered. Confined in small living quarters such
as cages would be the normal living arrangements for all these dogs.
Strategies that puppy mills use and recall signs
1.) Puppy mills may invent important health, enrollment, etc. .
2.) Puppy mills may not Want you to pay a visit to their premises. Many times might
have gates in place in the entrance to their place. Instead of coming to them to pick up
your puppy or dog, they will want you to meet them in a given place.
3.) Puppy mills will have a USDA permit to sell puppies to pet stores
4.) Puppy mills may conceal their dogs and dogs at another place
5.) Puppy mills may build a expensive website with a Great Deal of glamorous
beautiful pictures to signify something they Aren't
6.) Puppy mills may lie not really knowing who the parents is of a particular puppy or
dogs, they'll lead one to think that the parents are just one set of dogs and really may
be another set of dogs
7.) Puppy mills will use the lowest valued form of food that they can find
8.) Puppy mills may feed the puppy just enough for your dog to live and produce
9.) Puppy mills will normally market a Number of strains
10.) Dogs and dogs may live in little Smaller cages at a puppy mill
11.) Dogs and dogs of a puppy mill may have socialization problems
12.) Dogs and dogs of a puppy mill might have heretic problems like hip dysplasia
that you will not be aware of
13.) Puppy mills concentrate is quantity not quality
14.) Dogs and puppies of a puppy mill will have a slim Possibility that the puppy or
dog up for purchase is full blooded
15.) Dogs and puppies of a puppy mill may freeze in the winter and swelter in the
summer
Steps to take to Prevent a puppy mill
1.) Ask the breeder to get vet references. Do some research, call the vet and ask about
the breeder and also the welfare of these dogs and dogs
2.) Have a look at his accommodations for the dogs and dogs
3.) Request to see registration papers for the dog, phone the company of the
registration papers to do study on the dog and breeder.
4.) Ask the breeder to get overall public references
5.) Do a surprise visit in the breeders place
6.) Ask for all the vet records Fur is the New Black on the puppies and dogs
7.) Check the socialization patterns of their dogs and dogs
8.) Examine the overall appearance of their dogs and puppies
9.) Inspect the area of the place of this breeder should you see a person stop and ask
some frequent questions about the breeder
10.) Ask for names and numbers of past clients of the breeder, and ask the clients
about their dog or puppy Buy
11.) Do not be afraid to ask questions concerning the proprietor and dogs.
12.) Prepare a list of questions before you visit the breeder
13.) Request a sample of the food he feeds the dogs and puppies check it over for
quality and freshness
14.) Request about shots and wormings the puppies and dogs have obtained
15.) When You purchase a puppy take it to the vet immediately for a health check-up
16.) Notice how many dogs and puppies the breeder owns and how many Distinct
breeds the breeder has
I had a puppy training lesson this morning having a family who recently bought their
5 month-old Havanese puppy from a pet shop in new york. They've experienced the
pup for a Couple of Weeks and throughout that time have coped with what seems to
be More than their share of puppy issues. This little pup is consistently urinating and
defecating in its sleeping area, is eating its stool, and is fearful of everyone, including
its own household.
Seeing this scared little puppy seeking to hide behind the furniture so it wouldn't be
observed, let alone touched, allow me to feel heartbroken for her and for her loved
ones. They bought this puppy contrary to their own best judgement. That is, they
confessed that they knew it was not a fantastic idea to buy a puppy from a pet store.
But, like so many folks do, they entered the store after viewing her curled at the rear
of the window region and felt that they needed to rescue her. The store told them that
she had been there a month, which before that she came from a respectable breeder
and lived in the men home. But, as I explained to the family, the dog's behavior and
logic would suggest otherwise.
First of all, a respectable breeder would want to learn who their pups will live with.
They would want to talk to the individuals and feel convinced it was a good match.
They also want to keep track of their dogs that they choose to bring into this world, if
only to know any possible genetic health issues in their breeding lines. Selling a dog
to a pet store would make these items unlikely to take place.
Additionally, a person who chooses to breed purebred dogs responsibly would surely
understand something or two about ancient socialization, managing and gentling. The
experiences in the first 22 weeks of a pup's life play a dramatic role in their own
behaviour and temperament throughout the rest of their life. Inside this pup's situation,
chances are she obtained very little handling and socialization in the place where she
was born. From that point she was shipped on a truck from Missouri to a pet shop in
New York City and put into a display cage where she was made to eat, drink, sleep,
urinate and defecate all in the exact same location. This doesn't bode well for
maintaining a puppy's natural sense of cleanliness for ease of future housetraining.
We spent an hour discussing ways we would work together to assist this pup conquer
the mistreatment she seems to have endured in the initial months of her life. This
family looks wonderfully committed for this small pup and we created a thorough
plan for housetraining and a great deal of gradual exposure to people and new
surroundings.
I am confident they are committed to assisting her make progress towards being a
happy, confident dog and not to buying a dog or products from this kind of place ever
again. In all probability, this puppy's mother and father are living in tiny cages in a
puppy mill and being used to breed over and over until they can no longer do so. At
this time, most puppy mill breeding dogs have been killed, abandoned or surrendered
to a nearby shelter. Among the simplest ways to help stop the suffering of puppies
similar to this is to refuse to purchase the puppies that come from those mills. When
there's no longer a need for these dogs, the puppy mills will go out of business along
with innumerable dogs will probably be spared from suffering a harsh life.

This little pup is consistently urinating and defecating in its sleeping area, is eating its stool, and is fearful of everyone, including its own household. Seeing this scared little puppy seeking to hide behind the furniture so it wouldn't be observed, let alone touched, allow me to feel heartbroken for her and for her loved ones. They bought this puppy contrary to their own best judgement. That is, they confessed that they knew it was not a fantastic idea to buy a puppy from a pet store. But, like so many folks do, they entered the store after viewing her curled at the rear of the window region and felt that they needed to rescue her. The store told them that she had been there a month, which before that she came from a respectable breeder and lived in the men home. But, as I explained to the family, the dog's behavior and logic would suggest otherwise. First of all, a respectable breeder would want to learn who their pups will live with. They would want to talk to the individuals and feel convinced it was a good match. They also want to keep track of their dogs that they choose to bring into this world, if only to know any possible genetic health issues in their breeding lines. Selling a dog to a pet store would make these items unlikely to take place. Additionally, a person who chooses to breed purebred dogs responsibly would surely understand something or two about ancient socialization, managing and gentling. The experiences in the first 22 weeks of a pup's life play a dramatic role in their own behaviour and temperament throughout the rest of their life. Inside this pup's situation, chances are she obtained very little handling and socialization in the place where she was born. From that point she was shipped on a truck from Missouri to a pet shop in New York City and put into a display cage where she was made to eat, drink, sleep, urinate and defecate all in the exact same location. This doesn't bode well for maintaining a puppy's natural sense of cleanliness for ease of future housetraining. We spent an hour discussing ways we would work together to assist this pup conquer the mistreatment she seems to have endured in the initial months of her life. This

I am confident they are committed to assisting her make progress towards being a happy, confident dog and not to buying a dog or products from this kind of place ever again. In all probability, this puppy's mother and father are living in tiny cages in a puppy mill and being used to breed over and over until they can no longer do so. At this time, most puppy mill breeding dogs have been killed, abandoned or surrendered to a nearby shelter. Among the simplest ways to help stop the suffering of puppies similar to this is to refuse to purchase the puppies that come from those mills. When there's no longer a need for these dogs, the puppy mills will go out of business along with innumerable dogs will probably be spared from suffering a harsh life.
