Pulmonary complications are common causes of adverse outcomes in HIV-infected individuals. Respiratory infections like Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP), tuberculosis, and Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) are associated with decreasing CD4 counts. PCP causes non-specific symptoms and diffuse bilateral infiltrates on chest imaging. Treatment involves co-trimoxazole and corticosteroids. Tuberculosis and MAC require prolonged multi-drug treatment and prophylaxis in advanced HIV to prevent disease. Highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) has significantly reduced the incidence of these pulmonary infections by restoring immune function in HIV patients.

• Then initially start NSAIDS
• If not improved then short term (4-8 weeks) – systemic corticosteroids
