Utah Broadband Advisory Council was formed in 2011 to
improve coordination and promote broadband expansion

4. INCREASES IN COVERAGE AND SPEED
In the past 6 months:
• 3 new providers were added to the broadband map
• 13 fixed providers increased speeds/coverage
• 3 mobile providers increased speeds/coverage areas

5. EMPOWERING THE PRIVATE SECTOR
Maps over 50 Internet providers’ service areas

6. UTAH BROADBAND INTERACTIVE MAP
Yearly User Numbers for Map and Website:
Unique Users: 22,394
Total Hits: 43,716
Provides Detailed Data on Residential Broadband Availability

• FCC data over reports coverage
• Limits funding opportunities
• Disadvantages unserved areas
• Inhibits future planning initiatives

8. UTAH BROADBAND PROJECT ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Formed seven regional
broadband planning teams
Participants included:
• 40 Internet providers
• 19 cities
• 21 counties
• 12 elected officials
• 10 libraries
• 5 healthcare institutions
• 4 Native American Tribes
• 49 businesses participated
