3. A Night with Hebe Tien
24.10.2014 (Fri) - Setting up my mind, stopped being anxious about my assignments,
I persuaded my mum to go to the autograph event of my favorite female idol, Hebe
Tien in The Summit, USJ. In my first sense, I thought that my mum will not allow me
to go because there were a mountain of tasks were waiting for me to accomplish.
In the evening, my mum asked: “ Hey, are you going to the event later? ” At
the moment, there was a mixed-feeling on myself. How am I going to reply? If I reply
as “yes.” Will she allows and brings me to go? Eventually, as shown as the title
above, I went there. That was a great Friday night for me. From this situation, I
remembered a theory what I have been taught from social psychology class. From my
action and thought, it was reflected by representative heuristics when I made a
judgment about the probability on going to the night event.
In that night, the mall was clogged with the crowd. Many fans and reporters
had been there. I hardly squeezed in the crowd. Then, I started to observe the “social
behaviors” in the crowd. Back to the representative heuristic topic, I saw all of the
fans were so engrossed looking at the stage. A judgment came into my mind, all of the
fans must be very excited and eager to meet the singer. Perhaps some people may not
Hebe’s fans, but they also came to look for the presence of the famous singer, I
guessed.
Then, a self-fulfilling prophecy happened in my mind. I thought that I was
unable to get the signature of Hebe because the queue will be too long since everyone
wants to get Hebe’s signature. Eventually, I really couldn’t get her signature and went
back. This proved that the theory is right which is false belief will eventually come
true.
