Psoriasis is a skin condition characterized by pink or red patches of thick, scaly skin that is most commonly found on the elbows, knees, scalp, and gluteal cleft. It results from excessive proliferation and rapid turnover of skin cells. Psoriasis can also be associated with psoriatic arthritis in 5-10% of cases and has links to other conditions like ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, cardiovascular disease, and some cancers. Treatment involves topical ointments and creams, light therapy, oral medications, steroids, anti-inflammatories, vitamins and supplements, stress management, and self-care practices.
