This document discusses the concept of recreational shopper identity, which is defined as incorporating recreational shopping into one's self-concept. Two studies were conducted to develop and validate a Recreational Shopper Identity Scale. In the first study, the scale was validated and showed recreational shopping can be experienced as a true leisure activity. The second study used the scale to identify groups that differ in how much they see themselves as recreational shoppers. Those who saw it as central to their identity engaged more in shopping behaviors and spent more money.
