A presentation illustrating how abstraction techniques facilitate innovation. Used as an introduction to abstraction workshops for the design teams at Samsonite.
Getting stakeholders to think in customer centric manner is relatively straightforward, yet often yields little in terms of actual change. This requires more than stakeholder support - it requires commitment, trust, and active participation in a process that can be unfamiliar or even frightening in a corporate environment. Workshops provide an opportunity to challenge the worldview of your stakeholders and expose them to the truths of customer behaviour. It’s an opportunity to transform them from supporters to believers by creating an environment where they can experience the magic of a user-centred collaborative process.

Stop, Collaborate, and Listen - Dean HudsonAtlassian
Atlassian is growing at a phenomenal rate. As the company scales, how will we continue to deliver great user experiences? Looking at the tools and techniques used by the JIRA Design Team, we'll cover ideas and strategies that you can build into your own processes to collaborate as an experience-lead team.
A brief run-through of various group-based and individual techniques for using the wonders of sketching in Service Design. The second half of the presentation covers hands-on drawing techniques to tackle common objects and other things often drawn in Service Design artefacts.
Designing designer's time - Tin KadoicWeb à Québec
What does a week in a life of a designer look like? How successful are we in managing the complexities that come with designing for society-first, user-centric experiences while still maintaining collaboration, creativity and innovation. How do we invest our time throughout the (work) day, and what are the challenges behind connecting our micro-actions, habits, and how we spend our hours to the impact we have on our projects, teams, and communities.
Drawing inspiration from 15y of experience working as a freelancer, studio owner, consultant, lecturer, startup designer, and in-house designer, the goal is to deconstruct how vastly different our activities might be – ranging from craft to strategy, from IC to mentorship, from prototyping for usability testing to facilitating ice breakers.
This talk will walk the audience through a real-time job description of a designer in 2019 – one that can thrive only if it continues to adapt.
What can we expect to happen to services and design in the next 10 years? In this presentation, our head of Insight, Marzia Arico, explores four drivers of change that will significantly impact services and design in the future. #SDGC17

Born from the recognition that design could be a powerful driver in the local Maltese economy, “Curated Malta” was a design incubator set up as an independent practice to grow and assist emerging Maltese design talent.
Upon witnessing a severe gap in the Maltese souvenir market, in 2015 I ran an industry-sponsored live case project between Level 5 students at the Malta College of Art Science & Technology (MCAST) and Tabria Property & Hospitality Management. The objective was for students to engage with the local history & culture of both Palazzo Parisio & the wider island of Malta to create/design a souvenir product that could be domestically produced for the boutique at Palazzo Parisio.
After successful presentation to Tabria Property & Hospitality Management, the program was launched as the Atelier Settembru initiative to the Maltese Ministry of Cultural Affiars in an attempt to create a range of diplomatic gifts for the commencement of Malta’s tenure of the EU presidency in 2017.
Student work: Designs for volunteer uniforms of the 2015 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Malta by Julie Rose Scribberas.
Upon successful completion of a semester-long live case project for my Ideas & Concept Generation module, I recognized the extraordinary potential of Ms. Scribberas’ designs as possible uniform designs for the volunteers of this global diplomatic summit.
With both of us working outside of normal class requirements, I liaised with the office of the Prime Minister’s CHOGM task force to promote my student’s work and coached Ms. Scribberas intensively to help her prepare her visual and oral presentation for such a high-level meeting. This proved to be an invaluable experience for an emerging designer which she may not have otherwise had.

The “Reverse the Wave” Print Campaign was developed for Neville Broody’s inaugural “ Anti-Design Festival” who’s mission was to “unlock creative fires, hitherto deemed out-of-bounds by purely commercial criteria.
The print campaign is comprised of seven A5 sided flyers and one A3 side poster. These were featured in the Anti-Design Festival’s Shoreditch exhibition and distributed and pasted all over Liverpool during the Liverpool Biennial
Evian Water- The Drink for the Chemical Generation: Storyboards for two video commercials for Evian water that cross-cut vintage hi-8 video footage of Rave Kid’s at one of Frankie Bone’s raves in Brooklyn 1992 with festival goers at Roskilde Festival in 1999.
Serving as Art Director, Producer and Director I created three different concepts with the Icelandic Film Commission for a “teaser” advertising campaign to attract Tommy Hilfiger to shoot their next campaign in Iceland.
In addition to producing and directly one :60 video spot (now lost) I created a concept which was easily scalable to other countries that had flags with the brand’s colours (red, white, and blue) which would enable the brand to extend their global reach.
A collaboration with an Iranian media producer to cross-promote the “Reverse the Wave” Subvertisement and the one-year anniversary of the 2009 Election Protests in Iran. Promoted on social media, the guerilla projections in London were mounted on the Iranian Embassy, the UK Department of Trade and Industry and in a residential neighborhood with a high population of Iranian immigrants.
Operation Video Tag was further developed for the Liverpool Biennial. By hiring a mobile advertising van to create a greater street presence the campaign moved around the city, projecting at strategic locations during the opening and closing nights of the Biennial. Once again social media proved invaluable in letting the Biennial audience know about our presence and whereabouts.
An exhibition design concept that employs interpretive storytelling to communicate the mission of the world’s largest library focusing on the holocaust and genocide. The design not only communicates viscerally the experience of displaced persons but it also maximizes the return on investment for this, the client’s sole fundraising effort.
Concept Development, Art Direction, and Copywriting for a concept for the “M•A•Cnificent Me” Campaign. Styling and Directing of photo shoots for 6 different advertisements, pairing them with 6 original tag lines for this crowd sourcing competition sponsored by M•A•C Cosmetics.
This wide-ranging concept was designed to illustrate a woman’s radiance in all aspects of her life (not merely when dressing up) thus prompting M•A•C customers to connect M•A•C Cosmetics with lifestyle choices other than Glamour and thus extending the brand’s reach into new sectors and more diversified audiences.
