This document describes two prototypes for an alarm clock that helps wake the user up. The first prototype was a flying alarm clock with a propeller that would fly around the room making noise until returned to the clock. It successfully woke the user. The second prototype was a weightlifting alarm clock that required the user to lift it 30 times to disable the alarm. It worked to wake the user but needed improvements to be more comfortable and decorative. Both prototypes were tested by Eric and feedback was collected on what worked and improvements needed.

 One to make you at least open
one eye at the sound of the
alarm. Why? You need to watch
where the key to the alarm clock
is propelled to, silly! Flying alarm
clock is committed to wake you
up by making its propeller fly off
the alarm. With the frightening
alarm sounds blaring throughout
your room, and possibly your flat
too, you have to quickly retrieve
the propeller (the key) to lodge it
back to the clock to make the
sound stop

4. What worked ?
 First, the user successfully managed to
wake up.
 Then he managed to capture the flying
copter.
 He managed to disable the alarm by
putting the copter back to the point.
 Managed to warm his body and he is
ready throughout the day

5. What could be improved ?
 Music/alarm sound can be louder.
 Adding the system more portable, right
now its really hard to carry.
 More fashionable, we are making this not
only an alarm clocking waking item but
also a good decoration.
 Flight mode last longer.
 Snooze functions adding different
functions

6. Questions?
 Eric left us this :
 What is it made out of ?
 Is there a way to make the alarm sound
louder ?
 Is there a way to connect other phones to the
alarm not only Iphone ?
 Can we import music to the alarm clock?
 Can we make the flight mode longer, it was
very easy to catch?
 Is there a snooze function?

7. Ideas
 First adding speaker function.
 Add access to not only IPhones but to
other brands.
 Making the copter flight longer
 Decoration, making it look good
 Hard materials, not plastic .
 Adding snooze function.

8. Reflection
When I came up with idea, I was laughing
about it. Not only the idea was silly, but also
it sound very childish and mature.
However, I put a lot of passion in this
project, because I know that it will help
those heavy sleeper wake up and get to
school/ work on time. After I heard about
Eric’s situation, I find perfect design for him.
So I’ve made him a prototype, I was very
excited that my idea became real. I was
more happy to hear that my own design
helped someone with their problems. It felt
really good on the inside.

9. Reflection continue
 Eric quoted “ This is the best alarm clock I ever
had, not only can wake me up from sleeping
but also it can help me warm up my body
and get ready for the day. A heavy sleeper
like me would be impossible to wake up, but
thanks to the easy but powerful device, I can
wake up perfectly” There were a few
problems though, like it would be even better
to make the flight mode last longer. Eric was
very thankful to me too. I’m sure he learnt
how to wake up since his eye bags are
getting better.

10. Second Prototype
This is a weight
lifting alarm
clock, the usage
is very simple.
Just wake up and
do 10 lift up of
the alarm clock
to disable the
alarm.

11. Weightlifting alarm clock
 Ladies, this Shape Up
alarm clock is absolutely
the best gift for your lazy
partner. Work out while
you try to wake up by
swinging this heavy little
friend up down 30 times
to stop the alarm. I’m not
sure how long this one will
continue being your daily
alarm clock before
ending up thrown out the
window.

12. What worked well?
(second prototype)
 The weightlifting alarm clock successfully
woke up Eric
 It warmed up his body, and by the time
the alarm disabled, he was completely
ready
 It was very strong and did not break
 Even though it was a prototype, it did the
functions of “ getting user out of bed”

13. What could be improved ?
(second prototype)
 It needs a cover, right now its made out of
few chip boards.
 It needs a proper alarm sound, and need
to make the sound louder
 Access to I-phone, wireless ~~ cable ~~
 Need to be comfortable to user
 Decoration, need to be a pretty
decoration to bedrooms

14. Questions: (second prototype)
 Eric asked :
 What happened if the user can not life a
certain amount of lifts
 What happened if the machine wont
disable the machine
 Is it possible to louder the alarm sound and
add music
 Phone, computer, Ipad access
 The clock looks really plain, is there anyway

15. Ideas (second prototype)
 Add more functions like allowing user to
set up their own lifting weight time
 Allow user to have snooze function, but
when they woke back up they will have
to lift a certain amount ( the amount gets
added)
 Adding music player, wireless function so
you can allow music connected on
iPhone or ipad and allow them wirelessly
playing

16. Reflection (second prototype)
 This prototype did not go well compare to
the first one, Eric was very lethargic when
he woke up and did not like the “ lifting
alarm clock idea” However he did
manage to wake up and warm up his
body. This prototype certainly needs fixing
and decorating also. Right now it is only
covered with few chip boards, and it will
break easily.

17. Reflection continued
 Eric did manage to completed the task of
waking up, he seems to enjoy it.
However, I do not think this prototype is
suitable for Eric. I slowly learn that Eric may
be a hard working man, but only in work
not physical activity. Therefore this alarm
clock certainly did not go as well as
planned.
