Dan Sgarbini created a prop list for a hip hop magazine with reasons for each prop's inclusion. The props were a LA Lakers cap to appeal to African American basketball fans, a gold chain to portray the flashy hip hop lifestyle, a photo of a male African American to match the target demographic. Modern clothing, Ray Bans, and Beats headphones were included to appeal to the young, 18-26 year old target age with ties to hip hop culture. Throughout the magazine, vocabulary, colors, and conventions related to hip hop would be used to keep the magazine relevant to the genre.
