The students decided to build a crusher as their group project. They used various machines like a lathe, milling machine, and drill press to machine and assemble the crusher's body parts through fastening and finishing. The crusher is designed to break down aluminum cans and plastic bottles into small pieces for recycling and weighs around 50kg, with its main body made of mild steel and functional cutter and shaft parts made of medium carbon steel. It consists of three cutting sets mounted on a rotating shaft powered by gears. The total projected cost of the project is PKR 35,000.
Can Crusher Device - Theory of Machines Mini-ProjectEsraa Fathy
Project | Theory of Machines (2012_2013) Under supervision of Prof.Dr.Mostafa ElHelaly.
Project Objective:
Design a mechanism to demonstrate the application of Theory of Machines – (PE 253)course principles.
The project is based on developing a simulated 3D model for “Can Crusher Mechanism” using SolidWorks then and simulating its motion using MATLAB.
Project Deliverable:
Our team was required to document both the activities performed throughout the project and the application of the mechanism in industry in the form of a Technical Report. The report contains: Brief description of the mechanism function and how it operates _Calculations of the mechanism’ degrees of freedom. _ Position, velocity and acceleration analyses of the mechanism. The calculations, analyses and simulation of the virtual prototype and conclusion. And to present the activities performed throughout the project in the form of a PowerPoint Presentation.
This report outlines a conceptual design of an alternative to sickle. The new product does not exist in the market, but one can simply call it “mechanical version of lawn mower”. The product that designed consists of 2 vehicles which help to rotate the brush cutter blade via mechanism. The new product has many advantages over human energy consumption, convenience and power consumption. The conceptual design of this product can be a good example of an Appropriate technology because it can be used in rural areas efficiently by local residents. This technology might be potential future product because it can be generated by local materials, this ensures that in case of breaking down, it can be reconstructed with local materials.

The casting of parts by pouring molten metal into a mold has been a popular and efficient way to make parts for some time. However, despite the wide spread use of this technology, it can still be a time intensive and costly endeavor for one to undertake if the proper equipment and facilities are not present. In addition, even in the event that the resources are readily available, it is still remarkably likely that a casted part will be of substandard quality or will have a disqualifying defect. It is for this reason that our team was solicited by Dr. P.A. Simionescu to construct a device that will allow the user to use the centrifugal casting method to make castings.
Ergonomics Based Wheelchair Convertible Stretcher DesignTRANJAY CHANDEL
This Presentation covers an updated design wheel chair that can very easily convert into stretchers well as operation table depending upon need. The movement of a physically disabled person from one place to another during his/her unhealthy conditions becomes a tedious task. It is required to move the patient within the hospital campus for the basic necessities, physicians health check-up, medical tests etc.

1. PROJECT SCOPE:
Student presented many ideas and after brainstorming we decided to take CRUSHER as our group project.
We can make a model according to our intended model/ concep. After machining and join the body by fastening
followed by surface finishing and paint.
While working on project the student used machines such as drill machine, milling machine, lathe machine hand drill
machine, bench shear etc. Furthermore some of students are also take 3 days training on CNC wire cut which
developed student’s competencies of machining and bench fitting and boosted their confidence by achieving this
milestone.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
A crusher can be used for crushing aluminum cans and plastic bottles for easier storage in recycling bins. This
device is easy to breakdown the plastic or aluminum cans into a small pieces.
The weight of this machine is around 50 Kg. The main body is made of mild steel and functional parts i.e cutter,
shaft made of medium carbon steel. This crusher consist of three set of cutters and these cutters are mounted on
shaft and shafts are rotate through gears.
PROJECT COST:
PKR. 35000 (Thirty Five Thousand Only.)
