Research Question
As I will be engaged in a sustainable development management of several business
parks, I’d like to investigate what are the stakeholders’ feelings about a specific business park.
I want to know if they:
1. Feel concerned or not about it,
2. Think of positive/negative effects on individuals, community, economy
3. Want the business park to grow or not and why,
4. Think its management is sustainable development compatible
5. Have suggestions to improve its management to gain positive effects on individuals,
community, economy (these are the 3 components of sustainable development)
Actually, I think I would have 2 samples: one with the raw questions (as described below),
one preceded by a little read text about sustainable development.
The stakeholders should be categorized into: inhabitant, worker, client/user, company
director, local authorities. Categories are not exclusive. They would be collected within the
survey.
Dimensions
The dimension would be
 Economy
o Local
 Owner
 Companies located on the business park
 Public transport
o Regional
 Freight transport
 Supplier
 Distributor
 Manufacture
o National
 Freight transport
 Supplier
 Distributor
 Manufacture
 People
o Individual
 Worker
 Inhabitant
 Client/user
o Community
 The municipality
 The region
 Environment
o Pollution
 Air
 Water
 Soil
o Wastes
I choose the conversational mode.
My five questions + 1:
1. What level of concern do you have about this business park? Deeply concerned,
slightly concerned, not at all concerned, have no opinion
2. How do you estimate the economic impacts of this business park? Highly positively,
positively, neutral, negatively, highly negatively. I think I would not propose ‘Have no
opinion’ option at first. If people ask for it, I will take it into account and ask them to
choose one by “If you absolutely had to choose one, which would be the best?”
3. From a sustainable development point of view, as an individual, what is the most
positive impact of the business park on you?
4. According to you, from a sustainable development point of view, what is the level of
management of this business park? With possible answers: None, Low, Medium, and
High. Have no opinion.
5. What management improvements would you suggest to enhance positive effects of
this business park? With proposed multiple choice answers: Focus on improving
collective transports, Create a day-nursery, Favour apprenticeship contracts with the
high schools of the neighbourhood, Set up a “zero waste” policy. I have to think about
other choices, and offer "Other (please specify):"
6. The sensitive question. Because it is not socially acceptable to be sustainable development
averse!
a. A respectful behavior of the sustainable development is threefold: protect the
environment, respect the people, and fairly contribute to the economy.
i. In general, would you say that you are more respectful than your friends,
less than your friends, or as your friends?
ii. Think about your friends. How would you describe their behavior concerning
sustainable development? Highly respectful, Respectful, Neutral, Not
respectful.
iii. Now, what about you? Highly respectful, Respectful, Neutral, Not respectful.
b. It is well known that some feel very concerned by the sustainable development and
that others not at all.
How do you describe your own behavior considering sustainable development? Highly respectful,
Respectful, Neutral, Not respectful..
