Subject: Annual Budget
I would like to request the finance department to present to me the projected cost for the incoming year by 26th June 2017. It has always been a pleasure to receive the budget for the whole year earlier enough and this time I expect nothing less but an excellent presentation. However, due to many hiccups that usually emerge in the course of the year, I would appreciate if this time the budget is broken down on a quarterly basis. I prefer this way as it will help us minimize the risk and ballooning of unexpected cost. The costs must be presented in our normal PowerPoint format, and it should be consistent with general accepted accounting principle (GAAP).
Due to the many projects that the company has this time around, the budget presented should try and minimize the administrative expense to avoid a scenario where the company operates with borrowed cash. The payroll, accounting, and auditing fee must be minimized so that it is used elsewhere. There are also many uncertainties that we expect this time as a result of the real estate market. As a result, this has put us in a position where we cannot make critical decisions at this time. However, this should not prevent us from to speculating and coming up with reasonable figures that can be used as assumed values.
As a way of trying to reduce the recurrent expenditure and increase the investment capital, the company expects something different from the previous budget. The repair and maintenance cost, as well as the utility cost, must be minimized as possible. Capital consideration in budgeting is very imperative as you all know and I expect our business analysts to use two methods of analysis namely qualitative and quantitative method. These are helpful in forecasting the financial projection or growth. For instance, the quantitative methods usually use the expert factor and at some point the human element in budget analysis. The approach is normally based on data and avoids the guesses and perception of people. It will help us in predicting the variables like insurance expenses and contract expenses product, the prices and other things. Some of the quantitative methods include payback, net present value and the average rate of return.
However, from my knowledge and experience, some benefits of capital investment cannot be assessed in monetary values. It is therefore essential for the finance department to also consider qualitative analysis since the use of quantitative analysis can give to misleading information thus making the business to reject a worthy proje ...

VER THE PAST DECADE, increasing
focus has been placed on the role that
businesses can – and should – play in
contributing to a sustainable global society.
Failure to face up to these challenges has significant costs.
Increasingly, a firm’s long-term competitiveness is
dependent on how creatively and adroitly its leaders
manage at the intersection of financial, social and
environmental objectives.
Responsibility for assuring that leaders at all levels in
the firm are ready to meet these rising expectations is
widely shared throughout the corporation, but HR
professionals, particularly those responsible for leadership
development, can be at the forefront of the effort.
To be in this vanguard, leadership development
experts must reflect on two critical questions: What
kind of leader is called for? And how do we develop
individuals with these capabilities? Since 1999 the
Aspen Institute’s Business and Society Program has
been convening experts in leadership development
from academic institutions, corporations and
professional service firms around the world, inviting
them to share insights on these questions. This article
details what we have learned so far from conversations
with these leading thinkers.
A new model for business leadership
If we are now expecting businesses to operate with a
longer-term view that takes social and environmental
impacts into account, we need a new model of
leadership to achieve that result. Typically, “new
model” leaders:
• are able to span boundaries, listen to diverse
constituencies and be willing to be altered by any of
these inputs;
• have the courage to make tough decisions in a way
that acknowledges the often conflicting
values/expectations of these constituencies;
• are enriched, not overwhelmed, by complexity and
diversity;
• build a team that is stronger than its individual parts;
• see the firm in a larger context, considering social and
environmental issues beyond the corporation’s gates;
• move beyond solving specific problems or addressing
particular needs ...
IS YOUR TEAM UP TO THE JOBRegardless of whether you are t.docxvrickens
IS YOUR TEAM UP TO THE JOB?
Regardless of whether you are the head of a nursery or of a national sports team, or whether you want to set up a company or a fund-raising
committee, you will be asking yourself the same questions: Do I have the right people for this project? Do our skills correspond to our goals? Are
we capable of doing what we want to do?
This team model will help you to judge your team. Begin by defining the skills, expertise and resources that you think are important for carrying out
the project. Note the skills that are absolutely necessary for the job. Distinguish between soft skills (e.g. loyalty, motivation, reliability) and hard skills
(e.g. computer, business and foreign-language abilities). For each skill, define where your critical boundary lies on a scale of zero to ten. For
example, an acceptable level of fluency in French might be five. Now judge your ‘players’ according to these criteria. Connect the points with a line.
What are the team’s weaknesses, and what are their strengths?
Even more revealing than the model itself is the subsequent self-evaluation by the team members. A good team is one that can correctly judge its
own capabilities.
Beware! Real strength lies in differences, not in similarities.
The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint enough to keep from meddling
with them while they do it. Theodore Roosevelt
(Based on England’s 2010 World Cup performance.) Create new criteria that apply to your team’s objective and evaluate each team member
against them. Afterwards, ask the team members to evaluate themselves. How do the curves compare?
THE GAP-IN-THE-MARKET MODEL
HOW TO RECOGNISE A BANKABLE IDEA
The goal of every new business is to discover and occupy a gap in the market. But what is the best way of proceeding? The gap-in-the-market
model helps by depicting a market in a clear, three-dimensional way. Draw three axes that measure the development of your market, your
customers and your future products.
Say that you want to launch a new magazine. Then:
• The x-axis is Cost-effectiveness – how economical is your product?
• The y-axis is Prestige – how well-known is the product?
• The z-axis is Awareness – how ‘loud’ is your product?
Position your competitors’ products on the graph. In areas that are dense with competitors, you should enter the market with your business model
only if it has the potential to be a ‘category killer’. For example, Grazia was able to conquer the already crowded women’s weekly market by
combining sophisticated fashion news with strictly A-list gossip. Look for a niche, an area that has been overlooked and that is not yet occupied.
Beware! If an area is completely empty, you should check whether there is a demand there at all.
Positioning is like drilling for oil. Close is not good enough.
This model helps you to identify gaps in the market: position your compe ...

Assignment: Budget Planning and Control
Before approaching this assignment, be sure that you have watched the following video.
· Budgetary Planning featuring Babycakes *FULL VIDEO*. (2016). YouTube.
Babycakes, a specialty bakery, is the company that will be considered for all parts of your budget planning and control report. For this assignment, you will develop a three to four (3 – 4) page paper in which you address the following.
1. Briefly discuss the ways a realistic budget will benefit the owner of Babycakes versus having no budget at all. Be sure to use Babycakes as the company and any specific product details in your explanation.
2. Prepare a sales budget for the LA Babycakes store for the 4th quarter of 2016. Present the number of units, sales price, and total sales for each month; include October, November, and December, and a total for the quarter. Use one-half of the Valentine’s Day sales as the basis for a usual day in the new quarter. Use 30 days for each month. Calculate the total sales for each month for October, November, and December.
3. Create three (3) new products, one (1) for each of the three (3) holiday seasons in the 4th quarter. Estimate the sales units, sales price, and total sales for each month. Describe the assumptions used to make these estimates. Include an overview of the budget in the report, presenting the actual budget as an appendix with all data and calculations. Add these amounts to your sales budget.
4. The owner of Babycakes is interested in preparing a flexible budget rather than the static budget she currently uses. She does not understand why, when sales increase, her static budget often shows an unfavorable variance. Explain how a flexible budget will overcome this problem. Use the details of your newly prepared budget for the 4th quarter of 2016 to address her concern.
5. Imagine that Babycakes is facing a financial challenge that is causing the actual amount of money that it spends to become significantly more than its budgeted amount. Include a discussion of your own unique cause of the overspending. Explain the corrective actions needed to address these challenges.
6. Integrate relevant information from at least three (3) quality academic resources in this assignment. Note: Please do not use your textbook as an academic resource. Also, Wikipedia and other Websites that are unreliable do not qualify as academic resources.
Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements.
· Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
· Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required page length.

1-Pretend that you are a new teacher. You see that one of your students likes to tease and joke on the other students. This student targets some students more than others and is meaner to them. The students who are targeted most often are those who appear to be less socially adept than some of the others. They may be younger, seem to have a more obvious disability or be overweight, wear glasses or not dress in trendy clothes. The student's behavior goes well beyond "friendly banter" and often leaves the other students feeling hurt and ashamed. How do you stop the student from bullying his or her peers and work to build the self-esteem of the students who have been picked on? What could be some of the causes of the student's bullying behavior and how might you work to address the root of the behavior?

What are some of the benefits and challenges you can see of the different inclusion models used with the different age students?
4-As a teacher of students with mild disabilities your class may be a diverse mix of students with various abilities and disabilities. How might inclusion and classroom management change when working with students with Autism and Autism Spectrum Disorders or other specific disabilities such as Down Syndrome? What would you need to take into account when developing behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and Individual Education Plans (IEPs)? How do you think these would change as the student grew and progressed through school?

development, can be at the forefront of the effort.
To be in this vanguard, leadership development
experts must reflect on two critical questions: What
kind of leader is called for? And how do we develop
individuals with these capabilities? Since 1999 the
Aspen Institute’s Business and Society Program has
been convening experts in leadership development
from academic institutions, corporations and
professional service firms around the world, inviting
them to share insights on these questions. This article
details what we have learned so far from conversations
with these leading thinkers.
A new model for business leadership
If we are now expecting businesses to operate with a
longer-term view that takes social and environmental
impacts into account, we need a new model of
leadership to achieve that result. Typically, “new
model” leaders:
• are able to span boundaries, listen to diverse
constituencies and be willing to be altered by any of
these inputs;
• have the courage to make tough decisions in a way
that acknowledges the often conflicting
values/expectations of these constituencies;
• are enriched, not overwhelmed, by complexity and
diversity;
• build a team that is stronger than its individual parts;
• see the firm in a larger context, considering social and
environmental issues beyond the corporation’s gates;

2-Tiered Behavior Management and Response to Intervention (RtI
Please share a situation where you have worked with a challenging or difficult student. Was a tiered program or RtI a part of the program used to work with the student? How do you think that inclusion may look different for students at the elementary level as opposed to the high school level? What are some of the methods used to include students at all educational levels? What are some of the benefits and challenges you can see of the different inclusion models used with the different age students?
4-As a teacher of students with mild disabilities your class may be a diverse mix of students with various abilities and disabilities. How might inclusion and classroom management change when working with students with Autism and Autism Spectrum Disorders or other specific disabilities such as Down Syndrome? What would you need to take into account when developing behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and Individual Education Plans (IEPs)? How do you think these would change as the student grew and progressed through school?

unit 9 discussion scenario 3
COLLAPSE
ABA Procedure: A DRO (differential reinforcement of other behavior) to address SIB exhibited by a toddler in a home setting.
Special Methods: Any appropriate behaviors other than SIB will be reinforced through a specific amount of time (every five minutes). Reinforcement is only given when the individual does not engage in SIB behaviors.
Risks
Notes
1 Implementing the plan at home can be difficult.
1 The family might be concerned with their safety and the safety of the child. There should be a protocol before implementing this intervention.
2 Family members and client could be at risk for danger.
2 The parents might be concerned for the safety of themselves and their child.
3 Possible increase in SIB
3 SIB behaviors might increase before it decreases due to an extinction burst. The behavior analyst should have a protocol before implementing this intervention.
4 SIB behaviors could remain the same.
4 If there is no change in the clients SIB behaviors then a preference test should be conducted to determine motivating reinfoncers.
Benefits
Notes
1 Generalization
1 The client will learn to use this skill at home as well as be able generalize this skill into other settings.
2 Improved learning environment
2 SIB behaviors will decrease and appropriate behavior will be taught. SIB will no longer impact the client and family in the future.
3 Increase in appropriate behaviors
3 Appropriate behaviors will be taught and replace the SIB behavior.
4 Least intrusive intervention
4 Using reinforcement to decrease the problem behavior and increase appropriate behaviors. This is a least restrictive method of treatment.
5 Parent training and involvement
5 Parents will feel confident about implementing this evidence based treatment at home. This will can lead to an increase a buy in from the family and they will feel comfortable implementing other interventions in the future.
Summary: DRO is an intervention that is used when the client does not engage in the problem behavior (SIB) (Bailey & Burch, 2016). Reinforcement should only be given to the individual after a certain amount of time that the client is not engaging in the problem behavior; in this case it should be after five minutes of the client not engaging in SIB. The person who is implementing this treatment should not reinforce the problem behavior. The benefits of implementing DRO outweigh the risks of implementing DRO. DRO is a good intervention to use when decreasing SIB behavior. Although there are some risks, the individual who is implementing DRO should have the knowledge, training and experience and be confident when implementing DRO ( Bailey & Burch, 2016).

1- I can totally see where there would be tension between.docxjasoninnes20
1- I can totally see where there would be tension between these two, especially in today’s world. I am no expert on religion or science for that matter, but I do feel like some of the tension is unnecessary. I feel that the two can work to benefit our patients by balancing them with the needs of the patient. Let’s take my kids for instance, if they were sick with some known treatable disease there would be no other option in my mind to treat them with science and medicine that has been proven to work. I wouldn’t only pray for them to get better and not do anything about it, but I would pray for them and do whatever was necessary to help my family deal with the stress and worry of a child being sick. Here we have used them both to our benefit and they each serve a different purpose and effectiveness. Thanks again for your post!
2-My perception of the tension between science and religion is founded at first glance and then not when looked at more closely. Science and religion can coincide in health care if respected for their own strengths and limitations. I feel that a healthy balance of both can benefit our patients providing different needs when they’re needed. I have seen with my own eyes CRP markers drop in an infant receiving antibiotic treatment and I have also seen an infant that wasn’t supposed to live by scientific probability actually make it and thrive with prayer being the only obvious intervention. So, trying to single out one over the other as more effective than the other seems less beneficial than trying to work them both in when the patient requires such help.
I feel that science is good for some of the more usual cases and things we feel we can help with its information, and I also feel that we can use religion to help a patient with their mental aspects of healing. We can quantify an improvement in a patient through lab levels and such, but it's hard to do the same with religion and how a patient uses that tool as comfort or however they use it in their lives. “Some observational studies suggest that people who have regular spiritual practices tend to live longer. Another study points to a possible mechanism: interleukin (IL)-6. Increased levels of IL-6 are associated with an increased incidence of disease. A research study involving 1700 older adults showed that those who attended church were half as likely to have elevated levels of IL-6. The authors hypothesized that religious commitment may improve stress control by offering better coping mechanisms, richer social support, and the strength of personal values and worldview” (NCBI, 2001). In this example we see the benefits were surveyed to be founded, but the exact workings aren’t exactly known. The great thing about science is that usually we have some tangible results that are repeatable and there’s safety to be found in that. The great thing about religion is that we can have faith in whatever we believe in and that’s all that’s needed. It's our.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

a 2013 winner of the C. K. Prahalad Award for Global
Sustainability Leadership.
3. As a CFO who advocates sustainability, I’ve noticed
that many of my peers take a lukewarm view of the
idea, perhaps because they simply don’t see how sus-
tainability can produce returns for a business. I can
relate: I too am always looking for ways to allocate
resources effectively and create value. . . .
As a founding member of UPS’s sustainability
steering committee, I have wrestled with the challenge,
and I’ve developed a point of view—one that empha-
sizes the power of organizational momentum and
embraces “enlightened self-interest.” My approach is
rooted in two beliefs: that companies have a responsi-
bility to contribute to society and the environment, and
that every investment a company makes should return
value to the business.
These beliefs don’t have to be at odds. . . . In fact,
the programs with greatest impact not only align with
companies’ strategies but move in tandem with their
activities. . . . UPS has established a five-step approach
toward sustainability in order to balance the needs of
various constituents. They are considered below.
1. Assess your strengths. What does your company
have to offer that could make a big difference? Find
out by assessing your core competencies, infrastruc-
tures, and relationships as part of your sustainability
strategizing. You will probably discover strengths
that charitable partners often lack, such as:
• Capital
• Specialized knowledge and experience
• Relationships
4. • Processes
• Physical assets
• Business acumen
2. Choose your spots. Finding the right space for your
efforts in sustainability has to begin with narrowing
down the field somehow. You might take cues from ei-
ther external stakeholders or internal managers. Stake-
holders include customers, shareholders, and suppliers
that increasingly prefer to do business with companies
they see as responsible—but also activists, who may
be a risk. Managers know the company’s capabilities,
cost structure, and objectives well, and can see the stra-
tegic fit of one proposed initiative versus another.
We think both these perspectives are important, and
we combine them in what’s called a materiality matrix . . .
one axis indicates how relevant our external stakehold-
ers believe certain issues are to being a good corporate
citizen; the other indicates which ones senior execu-
tives consider strategic and important to the company’s
future success. . . .
One priority that UPS was able to identify through
this method is safety training for drivers in certain
emerging economies. Stakeholders were concerned that
the rapid expansion of the middle class in Vietnam,
Cambodia, South Africa, and elsewhere has created new
traffic nightmares—not only more commercial vehicles
on the road but also a huge influx of first-time drivers.
They perceived UPS as an expert in road and workplace
safety because of its systems and performance. Mean-
while, company managers recognized that these coun-
tries are strategically important to UPS as new growth
markets. Thus a program that involved working with
nonprofits and humanitarian relief agencies to deliver
5. our proven safety training programs wouldn’t encounter
resistance from either inside or outside stakeholders.
Even public officials have endorsed it.

Environmental projects, too, are a strategic fit.
We know that our vehicles and planes produce emis-
sions and that we have an obligation to invest in a
cleaner planet.
3. Find momentum. A materiality matrix narrows the
field of possibilities, but it rarely points to a specific
initiative. For example, it might indicate that a given
company would do well to join the fight against
AIDS or help preserve pristine forests or improve air
quality, but within any of those areas numerous orga-
nizations are working in various places on different
parts of the solution.
Having a bias toward adding to momentum makes
the next step easier. It leads you to focus on where
energy is already in motion and where your compa-
ny’s additional efforts could make a big difference.
Ideally, your existing operations and initiatives will
dovetail with societal or environmental needs for
which others are already driving change.
Sometimes the momentum a company needs to
recognize comes from governmental priorities.
6. Indeed, failing to respond to them may imperil its
license to operate. . . .
4. Build productive partnerships. Most companies
just sign up existing projects on the assumption that
they and the NGO [nongovernmental organization]
will figure out some way to shoehorn in the compa-
ny’s strengths. . . .
To ensure a productive collaboration from the
outset, it helps to clearly articulate that the business’s
hope is to apply its strengths and add to its momen-
tum. Then the partners can proceed to understand
each other’s strengths, weaknesses, and shared val-
ues and to compare perspectives about the impact
they want to achieve. Next they should draft a strate-
gic plan; define goals and objectives; establish a
timetable, metrics, and milestones; and agree on the
resources required and what will define success.
Both sides need clear rules of engagement and an
open dialogue to adjust to each other, or to know
when it’s time to part ways. . . .
5. Convene other sources of strength. Large businesses
all participate in networks of organizations, in their ex-
tended supply chains and across their industries. They
have the power to convene other players and combine
their strengths. If they do so for a good sustainability
cause, they can add even more to its momentum.
UPS has enjoyed success with multicompany proj-
ects, particularly those relating to humanitarian logis-
tics and disaster relief. Most notably, we’ve joined
with our competitors TNT and Agility to support the
UN’s World Food Programme during disasters. . . .
7. UPS has also joined forces with some customers
on disaster relief projects, ensuring that their donated
products are received on time around the world. The
effort is particularly productive when we can com-
bine multiple customer-donation shipments, reduc-
ing transportation costs for all by sharing trucks and
planes or using employee volunteers to pack emer-
gency supplies. . . .
What We Are Choosing Not to Do
Following the principle of adding to momentum, UPS
has moved its philanthropic giving over the past decade
toward expertise and in-kind donations and has aligned
it with the corporate mission to enable global commerce
through logistics. Our more strategic approach to sus-
tainability has led to many of the projects we’ve taken
on recently. But the test of a good strategy is not just
whether it has you doing good things; it must also allow
you to decide what not to do. Aiming for “maximum
efficiency, minimum effort,” we’ve been able to see
more clearly that some projects and ideas aren’t for us.
More generally, UPS makes fewer one-off contribu-
tions. When all the components of a sustainability pro-
gram are guided by a materiality matrix analysis and a
plan to find and increase momentum, connections tend
to form among them, creating a cumulative effect. . . .
Momentum’s Extra Benefits
When you approach sustainability from a position of
your strengths, the line between the two realms of
value creation—helping to make the business profit-
able and helping to keep the planet well—begins to
8. blur. As I’ve noted, business competencies can reveal
social possibilities. At the same time, sustainability
work can inspire business improvements.
This can happen in very small ways—and small
ways add up.
