This document discusses the design of laminate composites. It notes that carpet plots are used for preliminary design and describe fiber architecture and orientation of layers. Layers are composed of 0, 90, and ±45 degree fibers to provide stiffness, strength, and shear properties. The thickness ratios of each layer are defined by alpha, beta, and gamma, which sum to 1. There are eight layers described with specific orientations and thicknesses. The A, B, and D matrices are calculated for each lamina and combined to determine equivalent moduli using provided equations, which are only valid for in-plane loads. Additional equations are provided for bending loads. Carpet plots can then be generated by varying lamina thicknesses and plotting equivalent
