For this project I was really inspired by the futuristic, digitalized, and geometric trends
in collections “digital wave” and “deep summer” on WGSN so when creating my mood board I
wanted it to be bold and graphic with psychedelic influences. To achieve this look I incorporated
three main elements in my motifs; streamline tropical florals, geometric shapes, and extremely
distorted shapes to achieve a digitalized psychedelic feel. When placing the motifs I wanted the
main motifs in each pattern look random and the for two of the patterns I had colorful floral prints
with a black and white pattern in back of it to add a geometric digitalized twist. I wanted to create
patterns that were modern and bold but at the same time fun and youthful. The best feature of
my collection of patterns is how they are all bold and make a statement without being too simple
or overly busy, and how they all go together and have similarities but still offer a lot of variety.
While working on this project I majorly improved my understanding of Photoshop not
only because I spent so much time using it for this project, but also because executing this project
required us to incorporate almost all of the tools and methods we’ve learned so far this semester
which was a nice way to review and tie everything together. I think that what I need to improve on
in Photoshop is just my overall efficiency and understanding of the because I wasted a lot of time
guessing about what to do until it finally turned out how I wanted, but even though this was time
consuming it was also a good learning experience.
