During the late 19th and early 20th century, known as the Progressive Era, reform movements aimed to address problems that arose from rapid industrialization and unchecked capitalism in America. Progressives pushed for regulations to improve working conditions and restrict child labor, as well as greater oversight of large corporations and monopolies. Notable reforms included new food and drug safety laws, bans on child labor and alcohol, and women's suffrage. Muckraking journalists played an important role in exposing issues and putting pressure on politicians to enact reforms.
