‘Creativity grows with laughter’ and Visa-Versa... ‘
Mosaic Malarky coined its’s phrase in my head whilst helping at a mosaic
workshop at a small local event in Kent in early 2011
In fact I found that I couldn’t stop!

I began to research and learn the process...
Now since it all officially began as a small business in May 2013, MM has been
awarded several grants, given the opportunity to be put forward for local
community events and asked to run various creative workshops for schools and
other local community based organisations such as AmicusHorizons
There has been a great deal of interest and success in bringing groups together
to get lost’ in their creative flow or ‘get in’! as we like to call
it! - either way is good as during the follow on sessions, folks are invited to work
on their own individual piece/s and the focus is more retrospective than
communal projects - So one can ‘Get In’ or ‘Get Lost’ depending on the project
and their perspective...

Mallydams 2012
Mosaic Malarky’s first public mosaic workshop was at Mallydams Education
Centre in May 2011 Great fun and a lovely environment for inspiration
Ore Community Mosaic 2012
The first community project I ran was funded by Hastings Trust in 2011 as a
large community mosaic which was made at and has been donated to the Ore
Community centre

Grouting the mosaic

All Saints Junior School, Hastings 2012 Olympic Mosaic
Year 4 students participated in the design and creation of this mosaic which is
displayed in the playground of the school
I began weekly Mosaic Creation sessions at the Ore Centre March 2012 which are
for

all abilities with a focus on inclusion for special needs. This has been a great
success and is
regularly attended by several local schemes

Mosaic Malarky joined as a member of BAMM - British Institute
of Modern Mosaics 2013

AmicusHorizons Community Mosaic Projects
I have coordinated groups of residents to create mosaics together for 12 schemes
so far it has been a great success at bringing people together
Mallydams Mosaics and Me project 2013/14
I was approached by staff at Mallydams education centre and asked to co-
ordinate a creative project to make a Welcome sign using clay and ceramic
mosaic tiles. Two local nursery’s were invited to take part over a period of
several weekly visits.
The project gave 42 local children an opportunity to visit the centre and explore
the woods . This project was funded by Earlyarts

been asked to run similar sessions again for 2015

creative social and make mosaics together whilst catching up in a creative
setting
Pocket Park Community Mosaic 2014
Local residents and friends were invited to come along and join in with this sea- themed
mosaic - all ages and abilities took part

Robertsbridge Home education group 2015
Mosaic Malarky was invited to run two workshops at the Home Ed groups monthly
meet which followed on to become a series of weekly sessions developing skills and
making presents on the run up to Christmas 2015
Developments 2014/15
I realised that much of the focus of work was community
based and so I decided to set up a Community Interest
Company and offer the opportunity for a wide range of
people to have access to creative activities
Found useful local services to explore ways of moving
Mosaic Malarky forward and am very grateful to HVA
(Hastings voluntary Action) and Hastings Works for
supporting me in looking into funding - also, the Ore
Community Centre put me in touch with BIG Local funding which I applied for in 2014
and have been successful in being awarded a ‘Do it’ award to build a studio at home for
prepping and storing equipment for community projects and for being able to pursue
my own work around family commitments
This has enabled me to be able to coordinate larger projects and take on commissions
I applied to East Sussex County Council in November 2014 for an SBIF grant for
£10,000 to enable Mosaic Malarky to continue and expand and was successful
A proportion of the SBIF grant is for building the business which has provided Mosaic
Malarky with essential office equipment and materials
I am also applying through SPARKS for funding to host several Creative Social
Enterprise networking events which will bring local groups together to share ideas and
developments

Pocket Park
Mosaic Malarky will be running two holiday mosaic sessions
for all ages at the Pocket Park during August 2015 and a
decoration workshop for the Pocket Park frost fair
Hastings Adventure Playground Community Mosaic
In2Play and Mosaic Malarky have put together a proposal to run a series of sessions at
the Playground for local children and young adults to create a sign for the venue
together and has been awarded grants through two
local charities to continue with creative activities
throughout 2016
SPARKS award
Mosaic Malarky has
successfully been granted a
SPARKS Santandar award to co-ordinate networking
events for local creative community based organisations
planned for October 2015
This networking event has led to a connection with
M.O.D.S - Memory or dementia support group weekly
sessions throughout 2016

Sea House Square
Mosaic Malarky has been commissioned to create a pebble
mosaic for Sea Houses Square, Eastbourne as part of a series of
community led projects which will address the need for creative
activity and enhance public spaces
Due to begin Oct 2016
Residential care homes
Mosaic Malarky runs weekly creative sessions at several
residential care homes
