- Progress Energy reported financial results for the second quarter and first half of 2001. Total operating revenues increased $1.4 billion for the first half compared to the same period in 2000 due to the acquisition of Florida Power Corporation. - Net income increased $73 million to $266 million for the first half, with earnings per share rising from $1.26 to $1.33. Earnings were positively impacted by the addition of Florida Power Corporation but faced higher interest charges and goodwill amortization from the acquisition. - Operating revenues and energy sales increased across electric, natural gas, and diversified business segments. However, net income faced pressures from weather-related declines in electricity usage, higher operation and maintenance
