1. Professional Statement
My name is Britney Beadle and I am an Elementary Education major with a minor in
math and language arts at the University of Michigan-Flint. I will be graduating in the spring of
2017 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education. I will be graduating in the spring of
2017. I have observed different grade levels and also different schools. The majority of my
experience has been with the upper elementary grade levels. My experiences include creating
lesson plans, classroom management, assessing students and providing the best possible
learning environment for them to be successful.
My philosophy for teaching is inspired by Love and Logic by James Fay. This
model states that children should be raised with awareness of others through loving
relationships. Clear rules and expectations are presented to the students about behavior
with consequences that are both positive and negative. This model is very teacher
driven that use positive and negative incentive system. The four elements for this model
about classroom discipline are fun for a child, control without yelling, gain for doing
right, loss for incorrect and also use of praise and punishment.
The reason I’m inspired by James Fay is because I think that children learn best
through love and awareness of others. I think that it is important for students to build
relationship with their peers and also the teacher, because it will make it a comfortable
environment for the students to learn in. I think that if a teacher is clear and straight
forward with their students about their expectations then it would lead to fun and safe
environment and it could help eliminate behavioral/discipline problems. I agree with Fay
about using positive incentives. For positive consequences I want to use praise. I don’t
believe in giving rewards like candy, or stickers because I don’t want my students to
think they get a prize if they are doing something right.
Outside of my passion for teaching, I love to spend time with my family. I come from
a small family but we are all very close, and I have a lot of great friends. I also like to
watch television and also I like working at my current job. I also enjoy traveling; I have
2. been out of the country and also too many states. In the future I hope to travel to
Germany, Grease, and Ireland.
