Introduction
In the game industry there is a lot of competition. It has and is a growing projectthat will mostlikely not
decrease in the nearest future. As of this there is largeamountof appliers for jobs and internships. To be able
to securea workplaceyou will haveto know your strengths and weaknesses as well as a decent amount of
skills to apply for an internship,as this mightbe a crucial partfor an employer. Havinga portfolio and
something to show for, likeand internship, might be the difference in getting the job that you want, and one
that you will settle for. You will haveto prove yourself,as well as your skills, passion and determination to
show that you are the right fit.
Interests, Strengths and Weaknesses
The firststep to findinga job or an internship is to know what one wants to achieve.Even though preference
and interest can’talways be someone’s firstpriority, itis an importantfactor to consider as this will appeal
more to the employer. To show the employer why you want that particular internship and presentthem with
your skillsand properly present yourself to make a company want to hireyou. For you to know how to present
yourself itis importantto have some work to present some previous work, but also to be aware of your
strength and weaknesses. One needs to be aware of yourself to be ableto showothers what you have to offer
to them. As you areapproachingan internship you also need to be prepared that you particular preferred
position in the company won’t always be available.Itis importantto consider that possibility thatyou will have
to improve and learn skillsthatyou might not already possess. For an employer to hireyou, of all thepeople
applying, you need to show that you are adequate for more than one task.
As partof the application processitcan be beneficial to make a listof you strengths and weaknesses. This can
help you get a perspective of what you might need to work on, but also whatto present to an employer.
Strengths Weaknesses
Creative writing Insecureabout own abilities
3DS Max Poor leader skills
High interest for story and aesthetics Strongly lackinggamedevelopment skills
Sociable/Teamcompatible
Company Research and Internship
After evaluatingown abilitiesyou move on to research into the different companies that you would liketo
intern in.As previously stated one cannotexpect to be employed by the company you would liketo intern in
the most. That is where the research is very important. As a firstchoiceI looked up the game company that I
would have liked to work for which is That Game Company, creator of a coupleof games which valueaesthetics
and story, which for me is very important and something I would liketo work on. As That Game Company is set
in the U.S it is impossiblefor me to intern there without a green card,so this is an impossibleinternship. After
that the next choicewas to look into Ubisoft, which again is notpossibleas it’s headquarter is in France, where
you will haveto be ableto speak French. The research from there on involved looki ngup different game
companies in Europa, and then narrow itdown to the countries that would be desirableto intern in.The next
step was to find a company with games, or at leastone, that I was both familiarwith and enjoyed. After
researchingfor a period of time I came over the company that I wanted to choose. Lionhead, which is a British -
game company. Lionhead was the developer of the game Black and White which I enjoyed immensely. As
followingthe next step was to find out if the company offered internships and whatkind of different interns
they were lookingfor.I was ableto locatetwo internships thatcaughtmy interest, Art and Game Designer. As
creative writingand 3DS max is my strongest abilities thosetwo would be preferable. The game designer
internship would have been the firstchoiceas this is the most obtainableone. It would give a great opportunity
for learningand improvement, as well as it is supported by basic skillsfromthe Game Design Course.

About the company
Lionhead is a British gamecompany located in Guilford,Surrey, Uk. The game company was founded in 1996 by
Peter Molyneux and co-founders Mark Webley – who’s deceased hamster the company was named after -, Tim
Rance and Steve Jackson.Lionhead is particularly famous for two games that they have developed through the
years.Black and White and Fable.Where they have over a period of 14 have developed several expansion
packs and sequels to the two games.
- Black and White: Creature Isle(Expansion pack,2002)
- Black and White 2: Battle of the Gods (Expansion pack,2006)
- FableII,II (Sequels, 2008, 2010)
- Fable: The Journey (Sequels, 2012)
The reason why I think I would be fitting for an internship atLionhead is not only becausethey developed a
game that I played and loved as young, but also becausethey want to make adventure and story games, which
is my strongest forte. As stated on their main website “we`re aimingto deliver the best adventures and stories
for you to experience”, which is very important to me. Even though I am not familiarwith all of their games, it
is something I am very much passionateabout. As games with values I respect and support, makes ita
company I would liketo work with. I also believethat it would be a great learningexperience as story and
adventure games is something I would liketo work with in the future.
Conclusion:
Lionhead seems likea company that would fit me very well.As well as havingdeveloped games that I have
enjoyed immensely, italso has focus on the aspects of game design that is importantto me. I hope and think
that I would be a good fitfor the company.
