Date/Time: Activity: Comment/Suggestions:
Began spraying insulation into mold to Make sure it is warm
October 15, 2011 form the actual structure of the and/or keep a heater
1 hour building by the foam.
Commentary:
Bought 15 cans expecting it to be
enough, but after spraying only 5 to
cover the first layer of it, it looks like I
will need closer to 50.
2. Date/Time: Activity: Comment/Suggestions:
October 16, 2011 Began spraying insulation into mold to
1 hour form the actual structure of the
building
Commentary:
Used another 4 cans to spray the rest of
the second layer.
3. Date/Time: Activity: Comment/Suggestions:
October 17, 2011 Began spraying insulation into mold to form the It looks like I will need
1 hour actual structure of the building around 20-30 more cans
depending on how thick
I make the layers of
each day’s foam.
Commentary:
Used the rest of the 15 original cans finishing the
third level. Structure is about a third of actual
height.
4. Date/Time: Activity: Comment/Suggestions:
November 12, Bought more cans of foam (another 15) and By making the layers
2011 continued spraying the rest of the levels. About thicker and laying them
2 hours half total height now. slower, less cans will
have to be used.
Commentary:
With the next 15 cans it should get to be the
required height, but some of it isn’t drying as
fast as other parts due to the cold weather at
night.
5. Date/Time: Activity: Comment/Suggestions:
January 14, 2012 Removed the MDF board surrounding the foam
3 hours now that all the foam has been sprayed and
dried. Leveled off the top of the entire structure
at 17 inches with a hand saw and sand paper.
Commentary:
Due to the differing temperatures the foam dried
differently in certain places than in others and
was much harder to remove from the MDF
boards than expected.
6. Date/Time: Activity: Comment/Suggestions:
January 15, 2012 Started to remove excess foam from the inside KNIVES. They work
2 hours and cut away the interior elliptical arena. well.
Commentary:
With the Dremel, sanding away smaller parts is
easy but regular knives seem to be much easier
than the dremel when removing larger sections
of foam.
7. Date/Time: Activity: Comment/Suggestions:
February 18, 2012 Started sloping the inside walls down to the power sanding is much
4 hours center of the arena with knives, and also cut too violent for the
about 25 of the arches into the sides of the detailed work Im trying
building. to do on the inside and
getting it to work at the
right angle is difficult at
best.
Commentary:
Using knives seems to be the best way to cut
away the foams, and serrated bread/fillet knives
work the best.
8. Date/Time: Activity: Comment/Suggestions:
February 19, 2012 Cut away a large section of the outside (about a
6 hours fifth of the whole structure) to better access the
interior and to show cross sections of the
hallways and arch supports on the inside of the
building. Continued working on the arches
outside of the building and the interior slopes.
Commentary:
Only about 100 more arches to go!
Also, the now cut away part of the structure isn’t
as centered as I would have liked.
9. Date/Time: Activity: Comment/Suggestions:
March 15, 2012 Finished most of the cutting on the interior The inside slope looks
7 hours slopes and about 75% of the arches. The cross rough but I’m hoping
section on one side is finished and the top level the sander will get rid of
of the coliseum is now finished. most of the
ridges/grooves.
Commentary:
Now that the entire slope if almost level the
power sander will probably be extremely useful
in getting it to be a solid and clean slope.
10. Date/Time: Activity: Comment/Suggestions:
March 16,2012 Power sanded the inside slopes and finished In some spots the foam
5 hours 90% of the arches. is very weak and
porous, I think from the
different temperatures
when I sprayed the foam
originally.
Commentary:
Can begin spackling the inside slope for more
support/solidity.
11. Date/Time: Activity: Comment/Suggestions:
April 7, 2012 Finished spackling the inside and spray pained
5 hours and primed the entire structure. Added detail
painting to the outside for shadow effects.
Commentary:
Most of the work was done outside and some of
the paint has pollen/dirt in it and will need to be
repainted.
12. Date/Time: Activity:Finished all detail work including Comment/Suggestions:
April 17, 2012 inside doors, flags, painting, and sanding small
5 hours errors.
Commentary:
Imfinially finished!
