The document is a process book created by Shelby Albrecht for an Art 360 Graphic Design 1 class. It summarizes four projects completed over the course of the semester. The first project involved creating an original composition using grids, color, texture and movement. The second focused on redesigning the logo for a solar energy company called First Solar. The third was designing a poster and brochure to promote the 99u Conference theme. The final project was a set of web and mobile advertisements to further promote the 99u Conference using the theme developed in the poster.

The Art of Composition
The first project I worked on for Graphic Design was a combination of working with texture, movement, space, and color to
create an orginal composition. First, I made a large array of different grids, in which I added color to create shapes. Then, I
chose a shape I liked and added tectures to the original colors. Thus, my final design was created (seen on next page). Once I
had my final design, it was added onto a poster, so that the viewer could see the design in context.

First Solar Logo
The first step of this project was researching the brand–First Solar. In order to fully understand my company, I compared it with
other competing solar companies, and comparing their current logos as well. After extensive research, I than began to sketch and
create new and innovative logos for First Solar, but in a direction far away from the cheesy and universalized solar company logos.
When I finally decided on the logo that would best represent my company’s ideals and innovations, I started to implement the
new logo onto a “real-world” scenario– a business card. The last process of finalizing color schemes, printing process, and seperate
web design, I was finished.

99u Conference Poster and Brochure
My third project of the Fall semester was afun one. I got to resort back to the reason why I wanted to become a designer– posters. To begin the 99u Conference poster, I be-
gan with grid designs for a regular poster, without knowing the context of the poster. After choosing a grid, I then began to research the 99u Conference’s history, what they
offer, and previous call-to-actions. For brainstorming purposes, I sketched a lot of ideas, and used post-it notes to come up with catchy terms that would influence what il-
lustratove path I would take. Once finding my idea of designing a poster based on the “anatomy of a graphic designer,” then I started designing. With the anatomical theme
in mind, I hand drew everything, from the human figure, to the hand lettering of the poster title. I decided to use the bright magenta from 99u’s logo, and added pure cyan
and my alternating color. I did this with reference to the screen-printing process, mainly because my poster print calls for a knowledge of screen-printing to get the desired
effect. After all of this, I also designed a small brochure for the conference, referencing the anatomy that would be found on the back of the poster.

99u Conference Ads
The last project was an extension of the previous 99u Conference project, in which I created a group of web and mobile advertisements. I wanted to stick
with the “Designer Anatomy” theme from the poster, so the branding of the conference would remain connected, while hinting to audiences what the
conference will be teaching. I made my advertisements for social media hubs Twitter and Instagram, since designers have high prescence on both. I also
included one for a design newd blog, core77.com.
