Creativity and Innovation- Getting Startedllfsudha
The document discusses the differences between creativity and innovation. Creativity involves novel or original ideas, while innovation takes creative ideas and implements them in a practical way. Several examples are given to illustrate this, such as a soda bottle being made into art (creativity) versus being made into a light (innovation). Innovation requires creativity but also the implementation of ideas.

This project describes an interactive elevator simulator designed for a museum. The elevator simulator allows users to learn about how elevators work through play. It will only rise if the correct amount of weight is placed on a platform, and users must add more weight until it moves if nothing happens after the first try. The main objectives are for users to learn while playing and to understand the basic principles of how an elevator functions.

The document describes the design and testing of a "Coffee Bean" prototype for a coffee station on the 4th floor of an office. The designers wanted to create a more social space and pull the coffee station away from the wall. They sketched ideas like a bean shape in the center of the room to facilitate interactions. A quick prototype was made and tested, receiving feedback. After iterations, the prototype created more social interactions around the coffee station and was kept in the lounge for six months to continue learning.

Unobtrusive is a second semester project, where a wall mounted storage
device, mounted with a maximum of three screws, made of steel wire was
supposed to be designed.
Cycling is an environmentally friendly method of commute and with
increasing levels of pollution in urban areas a subculture is emerging around
bicycles. Within this subculture, people use their bikes not only to get from
point A to point B; they use their bikes as a way to express themselves.
The result of this project is a sculptural, and in its appearance unobtrusive,
wall mounted bike hanger that is all about showcasing your bike. It can be
fitted close to a corner in a room, close to the ceiling in order to be truly
unobtrusive to the often small spaces in people’s apartments where the
bikes are stored and displayed.

5. SHOE MAINTENANCE PROJECT
Design Methodology
Clarks Care is an assembly of products that gives the users a certain space
and the tools required to keep their Clarks shoes in great shape, making
them more endurable and last longer.
This project is about design methodology, figuring out common and personal
ways to reach a desired result when designing. It is also a project regarding
branding, where it has been a part of the challenge to create a product for
an existing brand.

9. LUMINAIRE PROJECT
For any space is a project that initially tried to find a solution to an existing
lighting problem in a defined space. In the end, the solution turned out to
solve a higher amount of lighting problems in an undefined space.
For any space was meant to be placed in a narrow hallway, where one could
need different lighting for different tasks that took place.
For any space is a luminaire that should be mounted to a wall, either
horizontally or vertically. By rotating the main part of the fixture, light is
directed and distributed either towards the wall, for ambient light or in any
other direction to provide task light.

12. BRAND ANALASYS PROJECT
Droog is a design company founded in 1993 by the designer duo, Renny
Ramakers and Gijs Bakker, and is based in Amsterdam. As a design company
they have had a great impact on the contemporary design history. They're
pioneers in the way they use design as a playful and ironic way to comment
on society.
Droog's design is experimental and conceptual. It is thought provoking rather
than problem solving. They play with tradition, society and preconceptions
about materials. Rather than having a specific form language, Droog's design
choices are mainly based on a conceptual, playful interpretation of historical
and cultural aspects, with concepts that have an ideological
and/or philosophic undertone.
13. The word Droog was first used by the
design duo during the 1993 Milan
furniture fair and means "dry". The name
referstothesimplicityandtheunderlying
dry humor of the designs which has since
become their trademark.
Droog it yourself captures the brand
identity of droog and is made as a
conceptual product that could fit into
their line of products. Droog it yourself
stems from the growing DIY trend, and
the fact that droog products often are
mimicked in DIY projects. In this group
project, a generic stamp with a reflected
droog logo could be sold for a ridiculous
amount of money, in a box that is far too
big for the actual object, raising its value.
The stamp will create an
imprint on any product
that anyone could desire
to be a droog product. It
is a comment on society,
and droog as a brand,
where the brand or logo
itself, often are of a higher
value than the actual
product.
This project is presented
with the notion of this
product being the last
ever product that will be
released by droog.
This project was made
as a group assignment
withinaproductsemiotics
course, in collaboration
with Becca Allen, Bjorn
Fjaestad and Felicia
Nilsson.
14. B-LEVEL PROJECT
Purify is a concept for making water purification available to people in need
of clean water. The motivation for this project is the cholera outbreak in Haiti
that is a consequence of the earthquake that struck on the 12th of January in
2010.
This project examines the possibilities of applying a novel method in order to
purify enough water for an individual or family. Purify works as an affordable
and more democratically available method of providing clean drinking
water even after the outside world and NGOs has stopped providing relief
after humanitarian or natural disasters. Filling the gap of what happens after.
Purify adapts a bio-interactive modified cellulose fibre filter that resembles
a coffee filter in its structure. The filter is in the shape of a circle and folds
into a cone. The filter cone fits in an adjustable silicone funnel so that any
container would suffice for the concept of Purify.
18. PLASTIC CHAIR RE-DESIGN
What is a modern furniture classic?
Furniture in transformation is a workshop project where a modern furniture
classic is analyzed in order to define three characteristics to apply to a
conventional altea plastic garden chair.
In order to do this, Modern Furniture Classics was also defined.
Modern - I have chosen to interpret the word modern as something that finds
its connotations in the present time, or in the context of when the object was
designed. Something new, novel or contemporary.
Furniture - Furniture, objects that is used in a space for its spatial and direct
functions.
Classics - what makes something a classic? To me a classic is somewhat
created through the eyes of the contemplators. If an object becomes storied
because of certain iconic characteristics or because of its impact in its time,
it is worthy of being called a classic. I also think that bravery should be
rewarded!
The piece of furniture chosen for analysis is Kai Kristiansen's chair - No. 42
19. How could these characteristics be
represented in a re-design of the Altea
plastic chair?
- Demonstrating crafting skills by using
different techniques for the woodwork.
- Defying conventions by letting the
armrests "hover" in an unconventional
way.
- Showing off an iconic silhouette.
The three characteristics that was
defined for No. 42:
- Demonstrating crafting skills.
- Defying conventions.
- Showing off an iconic silhouette.

21. C-LEVEL PROJECT
Inducer is a single component, contact free, frictionless and non battery
powered bike light.
Inducer uses physics phenomena to provide the lightsource with energy, in
order to illuminate the path in front of the cyclist using inducer.
This project stems from the definition of a user, a space and a problematic
situation in the context provided by the definitions.

manual silkscreen print.
It is a visual experiment that enhances the density of lines to visualise volume.

28. BACHELORS DEGREE PROJECT
The cyclo chair is designed in order to imply questioning towards the current
throwaway consumption patterns in contemporary office environments.
When companies move, downsize or update their brand identity, often a lot
of furniture is discarded although they are still in a fully functional condition.
The cyclo chair is made from beech wood, sand cast aluminium and brass.
All parts are made from homogenous materials that are easy to separate.
The design is strong and timeless. Cyclo is environmentally sustainable,
mechanically sustainable and enables easy recycling, to adapt to the current
throwaway trends in consumption. Hopefully, cyclo will not be thrown away,
but instead be used for decades, be repaired and reconditioned.
Cyclo is designed in cooperation with Nils Rutqvist.
