2. Mind Map Of Potential Issues (Technical
and Practical Problems)
Some Technical Issues I may have
to deal with my production:
- An issue that I may come across
whilst producing, is not having
sufficient research into how to
produce a certain piece of
production effectively. For
example: I am working a lot with
typography which I haven't
worked with before. This means
I need to research and
experiment into this so that I
produce effective work.
- Another issue I need to consider
is backing up all my work. This is
so I donāt lose any important
pieces of work which can delay
my production time. This means
saving my work on more then
one platform and making sure
my memory stick isn't damaged
in any way.
- Some Technical issues I may
encounter through out
production are:
- Another issue I may have is
equipment. This is because I
will potentially need to use a
graphic tablets. This means I
need to plan and book
equipment in sufficient time so
that I can produce my work
effectively and in good time. I
also need to consider having
back ups incase the equipment
breaks. This means I can carry
on with production and it wont
cause delay on my work.
Another issue, if I decide to use
the camera I need to make sure
it is fully charged. I will make
sure to have a back up battery
and sim card so that all my work
is backed up.
Some Technical Issues I may
encounter through out production
are:
- Another issue I may encounter is
software errors. This could
potentially delay my work. I should
have alternative plans incase this
happens so that I keep producing
work that is relevant. This will help
me manage my time more
effectively. I can also try using
alternative software. For example:
use Photoshop instead of
illustrator. This will allow me to
use my time effectively due to not
postponing my production in any
way.
3. Mind map for Theoretical Problems
Some Theoretical problems I may
encounter through out my
production are:
- One issue that I may encounter
is transportation into college.
This is because I live around 50
minutes away from this location.
I will make sure to plan
alternative routes into college so
that I donāt miss any production
time. I will also make sure I give
myself notice on what the
weather will be like on that
certain day. This is because if it
is hazardous snow I need to
make sure to plan a safe route.
This again will allow me to get to
college safely, which means my
production will be completed in
time.
- Another issue I may encounter is
toilet facilities. This is because I
need to make sure to have
regular toilet breaks. This allows
me to stretch my legs.
Some Theoretical Problems I mat
encounter through out my production
are:
- One issue I may encounter is lack
of production time. This Is because
my production may take longer
then originally planned. This can
be because I could edit something
wrong which means I have to make
corrections. This will cause delays.
I need to make sure to experiment
with different styles before
production so I donāt encounter
these problems.
- Another issue I may encounter is
finance issues. This is because I
need to make sure I have
refreshments. This also links into
transport as that is expensive too. I
will make sure to save money so
that I am well fed and watered.
This will make my productivity
better. This is due to satisfying my
hunger.
Some Theoretical problems I may
encounter through out my
production are:
- Another issue I will encounter
through out the project will be
refreshments. I need to make
sure I have plenty of water and
food. This will help boost my
productivity.
- Another issue will be not having
access to the building. This can
be due to needing to use the
library for software due to not
having this at home. This
means I have to have the funds
to make it back and forth from
college in my won time too. I
need to make sure I stick to a
schedule so that my work is
done on time.
- Another issue I may come
across is not having a working
sim and battery if I decide to
use a camera. I need to make
sure I have a back up of these.
I should also experiment with
photography so that I donāt
come across issues in
production.
4. Potential Issues How will the issue be avoided?
Eye Strain
To resolve this issue i will make sure i take regular breaks. This will
allow me to rest my eyes, causing eye strain to decrease in chance
of this happening. I will also adjust the computer settings. I will dim
the light of the screen, so that it helps relax my eyes.
Not hitting deadlines
To resolve this issue I will make sure to set myself deadlines for
each piece of work. This will allow me to plan my work effectively,
meaning I hit every deadline. This will also allow my work to be as
effective as possible causing my work to be successful. By sticking
to a deadline it will allow the whole project to be less stressful.
Feeling Unwell To resolve this issue I will make sure to get plenty of sleep and to
make sure I have plenty of vitamins. This will help me fight illness
quicker and will increase my productivity.
Dehydration
To resolve this issue I will make sure to top my water up in break
times. This will allow me to stay hydrated which will increase my
productivity. It will do this by keeping me awake and well.
Back Pains
To resolve this issue I will make sure to take regular breaks. This
will allow me to stretch my back every so often. This will help me
loosen up any muscles that have grown stiff from sitting behind a
computer screen all day.
Health and Safety
5. Finance Software
One aspect i need to consider through out my project is
the finance. This is because it will play a part in
transport and refreshments.
With refreshments i need to make sure i have plenty of
drink and food. This is because it will keep me hydrated
and will help boost my productivity.
With the transport aspect, it costs me in fuel to get back
and forth from college each day. This means i need to
save to be able to travel back and forth from college.
This will allow my production time to be schedules
effectively. This will also allow me to complete my work
on time.
Another aspect i need to consider is how much it would
cost if i was wanting to publish my work. If i was
wanting to publish a A5 book containing 10 pages it
would cost around Ā£15 to print. This would include a
hard cover on the book. However, if i wanted to publish
the book it would cost Ā£300 to do so.
I also have the option of publishing my work on social
media. This would be a better platform to advertise on
due to my target audience being millennials. This will
allow my work to target my audience, causing my work
to be effective in the way i designed it to be. This will
also not cost me anything, which means my work can
be seen and i can gather feed back on my work.
Another aspect i need to consider is software
through out my project. This is because i will need
to understand how to use different software
devices. For example: i need to learn how to use
illustrator, Photoshop and inDesign effectively.
Once i have grasped these pieces of software
effectively, it will make my work better. This is
because i have come to terms with how to make
different designs effective and quickly. This will
allow me to manage my time better causing my
project to come along more swiftly.I need to also
consider the possibility of software being down. I
will need to make sure i plan my time effectively
with this. This is because if the software is down
whilst i am trying to use it, i need to schedule in
another time where i could complete that
design/piece of work. I can also try and discover
alternative ways which will help me progress my
production. For example: if i am using a graphics
tablet i can draw the picture by hand and go over it
at a later date on photoshop with the graphics
tablet.
6. Copy Right Information
With my project I may come across with a few copy right issues. This will be if I decide to publish my work. This
is because the poetry isnāt my own, which means this could cause a few issues. There are a few ways in which
you can use copy right of others work and these are:
1) If the copy right of the persons work has expired. This means if the work has entered the public domain.
2) With the expressed permission of the copyright holder.
3) Under the terms of a licensed agreement. The license will vary depending on what materials you are
wanting to use.
CLA License: For the photocopying and scanning of print material.
NLA License: For the photocopying and restricted electronics use of newspaper articles.
ERA License: For the recording and broadcasting from specific channels.
PPL License: For the playing and performance of commercial music.
4) Under the legislative exceptions to the exclusive rights of copyright owners, permitting limited use of
copyright protected work in certain circumstances. This can allow you to use extracts from protected work
without having to seek permission.
Exceptions of Copyright laws for educational purposes:
- In teaching.
- In non-commercial research or private study.
- In Criticism.
This copy right issue may become an issue whilst trying to publish my work. This is because I
am using my own illustrations but using another persons poems. If I am wanting to publish
this work, I am needing to obtain permission from the owner to allow this work to stay with in
the terms and conditions of copy right policies.
8. Making my Own Brush Tool
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xw4I-SD_oPc
This is an experiment and skill I have developed
through out production. This is because I was using a
basic brush tool which wasnāt allowing my own
individual style to be expressed. By making my own
personal brush it has allowed me to express my work
in a more unique way, adding to my own personal
style. From this tutorial I have learnt you should make
your stamp shape black and white so that any colour
can be added further down the line. For this is created
two versions of my leaf. The first one was a basic
outline, which allows my outline to be any colours. The
second stamp being bulk colour, which has allowed
me to fill the shape with any colour down the line.
These two shapes have come in handy whilst
producing due to adding a personal touch to my work.
Another thing I have learnt from experimenting with
making my own brush tool is how to adjust the
scattering and the shapes dynamics. This allows you
to rotate the shape and scatter the shapes so they are
randomly placed. This allows the work to be more
messy and less perfect. You can also add two
different depths of colour which allows you to use
different shades to portray your idea and brush in a
more interesting way. Overall, I have learnt to create
my own tools in future to add a more interesting effect.
This will allow my work to be more personalised and
more detailed, causing my skills to develop even
further.
9. Photography
Before starting my photography I has to consider three stages: key
light, fill light and back lights. The key light lights the scenery, which for
both of the photos I should of increased the brightness so the
background was bright for both. This would of caused the overall photo
to have less shadow. As you can see I have included the photos I took
as part of an experiment. The exposure on these shots are rather good
which makes the photography effective. As you can see it has a nice
natural shadow around the figure which makes the main focus of the
photo pop. It has also captured the colours of the outfits well which has
worked really effectively. I do feel like I could improve my photography
by using different objects and different scenery's to capture a
interesting image. However, after experimenting I decided to not use
photography as part of my project. This is because I felt like my work
would be more interesting an effect using graphics. However, from
experimenting with a camera it has improved my skills which will come
in handy in the future.
10. Graphics Tablet
In this experiment i used the graphics tablet. I havenāt
had much experience with using the tablet as i havenāt
needed to. However, for this project, i a lot of the
illustrations i will be working with will need to look hand
drawn. This is why i believe experimenting with the
tablet will cause my work to be more effective. To start
with i wrote out one of Rupi Kaurs poetry. I found this
hard because my writing is naturally rather large, which i
found difficult to keep the font small. From this is did
shrink the font, but i found it hard to match each letter to
be the same size. However, my end result wasnāt
terrible. From this i decided to use the graphics tablet to
draw illustrations. I created illustration that links into the
poetry. This is why i drew a heart and added different
colours and symbols to the overall poem. I found this
easy to come to terms with, however making my work
look neat was a struggle. I feel like this work is effective
because it looks like a diary entry which adds to the
personal touch to the overall poem. I also feel like the
hand drawn adds to this effect to. I feel like i need to
improve on my accuracy with the graphics tablet, but i
still feel like this work is effective. This is because its a
different style which adds to the unique aspect i am
wanting to achieve through out my final project.
11. Graphics/David Carson Inspiration
In this experiment i concentrated on making graphics
and typography. My typography inspiration came from
David Carson. I feel like this really work and adds a
unique twist to my work. With the graphics i created
a type writer so that i could place my font on the
paper. I feel like i worked well with colour here as i
have added definition and depth to the overall
illustration. I do feel like i could have spent more time
on the graphics by making the lines sharper.
However, i will practice this so that when it comes to
production it is as effective as possible. However,
overall i feel like the graphics are good and
interesting. With the typography i feel like this has
worked effectively to get the poem across. This is
because key words have been highlighted and the
whole poem is still clear to read. I do feel like i could
work on this. For example: by making the word
ādrainingā look like its dripping. This will cause the
typography to emerge more with the overall graphics.
However, i feel like the typography is i did in the
experiment is effective and works great. Overall, i feel
like this illustration is effective and would be a great
idea to consider in my final major project.
12. Typography Work
In this experiment i tried two different ways of doing
typography. I also included a few illustrations so that
i had extra practice on illustrations and graphics.
With the first image, i created a graphics of a car.
From this i made sure the font fit in the graphics so
that it combined both illustration and typography. I
did this by layering this over and cutting the excess
font off around the illustration. I feel like this worked
effective because it is a different style to what i am
working with. This gives me another creative outlook
to work with in my production for my final major
project. The second image i tried was by using the
graphics tablet again. This worked effective because
it allowed me to make my drawings more accurate. I
also combined the drawing with the font due to
wanting to work with a similar aspect when i begin
production. I feel like this would work effective as it
links a lot to Rupi Kaurs style of work. Overall, i feel
like these two different styles work well with the
poetry. These skills will come in useful when it
comes to production.
13. In this experiment i worked with photography and
typography. For this i followed a tutorial on
YouTube. I thought this style would add more
realism to the overall fanzine/book that i am
creating. With the photograph i had to darken a
few aspects due to cutting the background out.
This is because it looked like the background and
the photo was separate. I used the burn tool to
complete this. From this i made the photo central
and created the font i was wanting to masque
over her face. I chose a chunky font so that a lot
of the image peaked through. From this i cut out
the bulk colour of the photo and put a shape over
the photo. This allowed me to create a block
colour with a visible font cut out. Overall, i feel
like this worked well because its different to what
you would normally see. I also feel like this
experiment is very David Carson inspired too,
which adds to the unique and unusual effect. I
feel like this would work well as a front/back
cover of the book i am wanting to create for my
final major project.
Typography and Photography
14. Changes/experiments through out production
Through out production I came across a few
issues which has allowed me to experiment
further. As you can see to your left, these are
two designs I created for my final major project
which failed. These two designs are basic and
not very ambitious which has lead for me to
change a few design ideas but from this
experiment it has allowed me to discover my
own individual style. These styles have allowed
me to experiment further which has lead to
more effective production.
As you can see the black background for the
poems appeared to be too dark and took away
the delicacy I was wanting to portray for my
poetry. However, whilst creating these
graphics it has allowed me to experiment with
using different shades of colours and texture.
As you can see from the poem: ā I am water, soft enough to offer life and tough enough to drown in itā I have created some
in depth waves which has allowed me to create depth through out production. These worked well because I researched the
colour blue and it has allowed me to experiment with what blues worked well to portray the illustrations I wanted. The
aspect which failed for this poem was the graphics of the man. This failed because it is too simple and not ambitious
enough. This made the illustration seem dull and it definitely hasnāt captured my own individual design. However, this did
encourage me to experiment and become more ambitious with my work. As you can see from the other poem, it is also a
very simple and basic design. In the end I decided to change the poem as it was restricting my creativity. However, it
allowed me to practice with the pen tool and colour again which has proven effective. In this I created a pair of lips which
has worked effectively. It has also allowed me to create the teeth for the mouth and use certain greys to allow the teeth to
be visible and shuttle. This works effectively because it has encouraged me to become more creative. A few of these
designs have been included in my final production pieces but have been developed and adapted to suit my style.
