Michael Kennedy McIntyre & Associates is a law firm that focuses exclusively on post-conviction representation. Founded in 1985 by Michael Kennedy McIntyre, the firm assists clients that are currently incarcerated, on parole, and on probation. In 2021, more people are serving felony probation sentences in Georgia than any other state in the nation. On May 3, 2021, Governor Brian Kemp signed Senate Bill 105 into law with the goal of reducing the number of people serving lengthy probationary sentences in Georgia. The bill goes into effect on July 1, 2021 and will allow a probationer to request termination of their probation after serving three years on probation if they have paid all of their restitution, had no probation revocations in the last twenty-four months, and no new offenses. A judge must still consider the termination request and has the authority to grant or deny the request for early termination. It is estimated that the new law will save the State of Georgia thirty-four million dollars a year which would have been spent supervising individuals who now qualify for early termination of probation.
