Stress Less About Sex: A Peer-Led SMS Model to Increase Access to Sexual Heal...
Stress Less About Sex, a peer-led text messaging program to increase access to sexual health and family planning services for youth in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco, has reached 150 youth in its year of implementation in a neighborhood with some of the highest youth pregnancy and STI rates in the city. Through a focus on ongoing participant empowerment and feedback, the project has evolved beyond its original scope to include a youth-generated social media component as well as supplementary funding to convene a group of young men to discuss how to better engage young men in managing their sexual health needs.
This presentation will include best practices garnered from a year of implementation and will focus on how agencies can integrate a peer leader model into their text message outreach and recruitment strategies.

Deaths resulting from youth violence are only part of the problem. Many young people need medical care for violence-related injuries. These injuries can include cuts, bruises, broken bones, and gunshot wounds. Some injuries, like gunshot wounds, can lead to lasting disabilities.
Violence can also affect the health of communities. It can increase health care costs, decrease property values, and disrupt social services.

Smoke-free Outdoor Dining Voluntary Policy by the SOL Project
This was a presentation given at the Break Free Alliance conference in New Orleans, April 28, 2010.
It is a case study of a voluntary smoke-free outdoor dining policy with African American owned or frequented restaurants.
Early Age Onset (EAO) Working Meeting
The meeting discussed increasing rates of early-age onset colorectal cancer (EAO CRC) and summarized efforts to address this trend. Major topics included identifying priority risk factors for EAO CRC like diet, antibiotics and obesity during childhood for further study. Participants agreed to explore relationships between these factors and the microbiome, and develop prospective cohort studies to examine incidence and adenoma outcomes. Next steps involve continued collaboration to seek funding and publish findings to inform further research.

World Vision will describe their work with religious leaders in Garba Tulla, Kenya to help pregnant moms thrive during their childbearing years.
Highlights from the Field: NCC Mini-Grants
The National Chlamydia Coalition provided mini-grants of up to $10,000 to 63 state and local organizations across the United States to fund innovative strategies to increase chlamydia screening and treatment. Projects included coalition-building efforts in Minnesota, chlamydia screening programs at universities and in juvenile justice facilities, and community outreach targeting at-risk groups. The programs utilized diverse approaches like provider education, public awareness campaigns, and alternative testing locations. Preliminary results showed increased screening and moderate prevalence of chlamydia infection among young people tested. Evaluation of the projects will provide lessons learned to disseminate.
Social Marketing and Media Campaigns

There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.
