Chelgate carried out numerous assignments for clients in Brussels, including:
INSTITUTION OF OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY & HEALTH: This is the leading international body promoting best
practice in safety and health at work, based in the UK. We undertook a long term programme of raising
awareness of their work in the UK and EU. We hosted an event for UK Members of the European Parliament to
brief them on the Institution's activities. Then we were asked to organize a series of visits to Brussels, where
we set up one to one meetings with interested MEPs, and briefed the Cabinet of the European Social Affairs
Commissioner on how IOSH could contribute to log term health and safety strategy.
COMPUTER ASSOCIATES: This was the world's third biggest software manufacturer, based in Slough, UK, and
Brussels. We were appointed to promote CA software to the European Parliament and Commission. We were
also asked to publicise the software to the new member states of the European Union, and created a
programme of visits to the Brussels Embassies of the applicant nations, to the Commissioner for the
Information Society, and to the plenary session of the Parliament in Strasbourg.
OPEN FORUM EUROPE: This is a campaign group formed to promote the use of open source software. We
launched it in March 2002 in London, and set up a series of events in Brussels, including breakfast briefings,
meetings with the European Commission and MEPs. We helped OFE put together a consortium for FP7 with
companies and universities representing different member states, and promoted this team.
FOSAG: This was a trade association based in the Netherlands representing small businesses and specialist
retailers, and our brief was to work with Members of European Parliament to seek a change in the rate of VAT
for these professionals, and to raise their profile with politicians.
