This document provides an introduction to a forklift licence course. It defines a forklift as a powered industrial vehicle with a mast and elevating carriage to carry forks or other devices above 900mm, excluding walk-behind machines. It lists the main parts of a forklift as the mast, forks, backrest, and overhead guard. The mast supports the lifting mechanism. Forks are designed to lift pallets to place loads. The backrest prevents loads from falling back on operators and supports loads. The overhead guard protects operators from falling loads and tipping incidents.
