Teacher Hand Scoring System Updates
New features include the following:
– Improved navigation

The Teacher Hand Scoring System (THSS) is used to score
student responses for the following:
– Initial ELPAC (Writing domain for grades three through twelve)
– Smarter Balanced Interim Assessments for ELA and mathematics

CAST Interim Assessment Use
The CAST Interim Assessments are fixed-form
assessments.
Evidence of student learning elicited from
assessments will differ depending upon the items
administered and the administration method.
The evidence will help to inform instructional practices.
California Education Code Section 60642.7 prohibits
the use of interim assessments for any high-stakes
purposes.

CAST Items Requiring Hand
Scoring
CAST Interim Assessments each include one PT.
Each PT contains one constructed-response item that
requires hand scoring.
Scale score ranges for the CAST Interim Assessments
are based on those from the summative CAST.
Performance levels are also provided.

TOMS has an updated user interface.
Primary LEA coordinators can designate additional LEA
coordinators.
The IA Administrator Only role gives access to both
CAASPP and ELPAC interim assessments.
In the [Test Settings] tab of the Student Profile, tables
now include the date the student’s test settings were last
updated, the user who updated the settings, and the
source of the last update.
