The United Workers Party accuses the press secretary of the ruling party of using propaganda to link the IMF's recommendations to cut public sector wages to the poor economic performance of the government. However, the IMF had made similar recommendations to reduce expenditures to the previous government in 2003. Finally, the UWP believes the prime minister, who has led the country to needing IMF assistance after 2.5 years, should resign as finance minister to allow for new leadership to address the economic crisis.
