THE SUN

2. The Solar Furnace in Odeillo
We visited the Solar Furnace.
It is in the Pyrennees, only 2 hours drive
from our school.
The sunbeams are concentrated by 63
reflecting mirrors on the slope opposite the
furnace.
It opened in 1970 and it's 54 metres high.
The temperature at the focal point can
reach 3,500 °C.
