1.1 Complete de sentences with the following verbs in the correct
form:

2. I ‘m looking for Christine. Do you know where she is?
3. It ‘s getting dark. Shall I turn on the light?
4. They don’t have anywhere to live at the moment. They ‘re staying with friends
until they find somewhere.
5. Things are not so good at work. The company is lossing money.
6. Have you got an umbrella? It is starting to rain.
7. You ‘re making a lot of noise. Can you be quieter? I ‘m trying to concetrate.
8. Why are all these people here? What ‘s happening?
1.2 Put the verb into the correct form. Sometimes you neede the
negative (I’m not doing etc.).
1. Please don’t make so much noise. I ‘m trying (try) to work.
2. Let’s go out now. It isn’t raining (rain) any more.
3. You can turn off the radio. I ‘m not listening (listen) to it.
4. Kate phoned me last night. She’s on holiday in France. She ‘s having (have) a
great time and doesn’t want to come back.
5. I want to lose weight, so this week I ‘m not eating (eat) lunch.
6. Andrew has just started evening classes. He ‘s learning (learn) German.
7. Paul and Sally have had an argument. They ‘re not speaking (speak) to each
other.
8. I ‘m getting (get) tired. I need a rest.
9. Tim ‘s not working (work) this week. He’s on holiday.
1.3 Complete the conversation.
1. A: I saw Brian a few days ago.
B: Oh, did you? What’s he doing these days? (what / he / do)
A: He’s at university.
B: What’s he studying? (he / enjoy)
A: Psychology.
B: Is he enjoying it? (he / enjoy)
A: Yes, he says it’s a very good course.
2. A: Hi, Liz. How are you getting on in your new job? (you / get on)
B: Not bad. It wasn’t so good at first, but I think is getting better now. (things /

A: What about Jonathan? Is he OK?
B: Yes, but he isn’t enjoy his work at the moment (he / not / enjoy) He’s been in in

1.4 Complete the sentences using the following verbs:

3. The situation is alredy bad and it is beginning worse.
4. The cost of living is rising. Every year things are more expensive.

2.2. Put the verb into the correct form.

2. What time do the banks close (the banks / close) here?
3. I’ve got a computer, but I don’t use (not / use) it much.
4. ´Where does Martin come (Martin / come) from?`´He’s Scottish.`

6. It takes (take) me an hour to get to work. How long does it take (it / take)
you?
7. Look at this sentence. What does this word mean (this word / mean)?

2.3. Use the following verbs to complete the sentences. Sometime

3. You know that Liz reads a newspaper every day. You want to know which
one. Ask her.

4. You know that Liz’s brother works. You want to know what he does. Ask
Liz.

5. You know that Liz goes to the cinema a lot. You want to know how often.

6. You don’t know where Liz’s grandparents live. You want to know. Ask Liz.

2.5. Complete using the following:
