Find Your Why For Groups - The Agile South Coast Tribe Why, Feb 2019Steven Mackenzie
In his 2009 TED Talk (and 2011 book) "Start With Why" Simon Sinek told us that when we consciously start with "Why?" we can communicate more effectively and make better choices. Understanding and communicating our organisation's "Why" becomes important in our work when we encourage autonomy for teams to make decisions because we expect those decisions to be aligned with the strategies, goals and purpose of our organisation.
Discovering and stating our purpose, as individuals or as groups, can be difficult though. The parts of our brain that drive our motivation and emotional choices are not the parts of our brain that are competent with language. This session uses a tested format to help us uncover the underlying purpose of our organisation.
The workshop format comes from the book "Find Your Why", by Peter Docker and David Mead, co-authored with Simon Sinek. It outlines 2 separate processes, for either individuals or for organisations, to understand and describe the purpose that drives them. In this workshop we will use the exercise for organisations to explore the format, using "Agile South Coast" as the organisation that we can all identify with.

This document provides an overview of a presentation on non-positional thinking. It discusses how our thinking is shaped by organizing patterns formed from our experiences and emotions. These patterns can create tyrannies of knowledge, emotions, and logic that limit our perspective. Non-positional thinking aims to rise above fixed positions by embracing four contingencies: uncertainty, curiosity, discernment, and commitment. It involves strategic doubting of firmly held beliefs and strategic believing of ideas we tend to dismiss. Non-positional problem solving seeks to understand problems from a higher-level perspective by discovering the actual complex issues beneath apparent problems.

Christian Gammill shares lessons learned from his experience in customer development and starting startups. He emphasizes establishing testable hypotheses, getting fast feedback through prototypes and minimum viable products, and iterating quickly. Do you want to get your SharePoint project right the first time? It has been our experience that there is no way for a project to succeed if the stakeholders and solution designers are not in alignment, no matter how good the solution. If your technical team and business stakeholders are not on the same page then the project will fail. The problem is that getting the business stakeholders to tell you their vision and understand what success looks like to them is very difficult.
Over the past decade of delivering successful SharePoint projects, we have discovered methods that work very well at eliciting the stakeholders' desires and then ensuring that we have clarified our own understanding with them. These methods involve the use of visual and tactile tools that open the lines of communication and rapidly expose misunderstandings.
We will demonstrate tools such as mind mapping, card sorting, gamestorming, tree-testing and other methods, and we will have you participate in exercises that will give you the confidence to apply these tools in your own practice. Many of these methods are very easy to learn and apply, and this tutorial will give you the confidence to do so.
The application of these visual tools has directly influenced the success of the many projects we've worked on over the years. We won't be giving you theory, but rather stories and examples from our real-life experience. We hope you'll join us for a practical, useful, fun and enlightening experience.

The document is a presentation on non-positional thinking given by Ariane David. It discusses how thinking is shaped by organizing patterns formed from our beliefs and experiences. Memory and perception are fallible and subjective. True problem solving requires considering problems from multiple perspectives without attachment to any one view. The principles of non-positional thinking are uncertainty, curiosity, discernment, and courage which can help overcome biases. Non-positional problem solving examines the underlying conditions that maintain problems rather than just symptoms. Organizational change also requires transforming cultures and behaviors.
Organizational Culture and the Secret Life:

The document discusses how groupthink dynamics within the highly cohesive Penn State football program likely contributed to the mishandling of the Jerry Sandusky child abuse scandal. It describes groupthink as a phenomenon that can occur in exclusive groups where members prioritize loyalty to the group over outside concerns. The author argues this helps explain why key figures like Joe Paterno and Mike McQueary failed to adequately address Sandusky's abuse, instead protecting the football program. New rules will not fix deeper issues like this that enable such problems to recur within insular elite groups.

Understanding User Needs and Satisfying ThemAggregage
https://www.productmanagementtoday.com/frs/26903918/understanding-user-needs-and-satisfying-them
We know we want to create products which our customers find to be valuable. Whether we label it as customer-centric or product-led depends on how long we've been doing product management. There are three challenges we face when doing this. The obvious challenge is figuring out what our users need; the non-obvious challenges are in creating a shared understanding of those needs and in sensing if what we're doing is meeting those needs.
In this webinar, we won't focus on the research methods for discovering user-needs. We will focus on synthesis of the needs we discover, communication and alignment tools, and how we operationalize addressing those needs.
Industry expert Scott Sehlhorst will:
• Introduce a taxonomy for user goals with real world examples
• Present the Onion Diagram, a tool for contextualizing task-level goals
• Illustrate how customer journey maps capture activity-level and task-level goals
• Demonstrate the best approach to selection and prioritization of user-goals to address

86. How to Engage Emotions
Make them care.
– What moves them? Why are you talking to them?
– Tell a story; avoid emotionally loaded words.
– Provide moving facts
