INTRODUCTION
CNT is one of the most important nano material at present time before 1991.
mainly allotropes of carbon were known as mainly diamond and graphite. but in
1991 Japanese physicist sumio lijima discovered another allotrope of carbon called
carbon nano tube.
CNT are hollow cylinders of c-atoms. CNT is product by rolling a graphene sheet.
graphene is a two dimensional sheet of graphite. CNT is like rolled sheet of graphite
TYPES OF CARBON NANOTUBE
Two types of carbon nano tube
1.Single walled CNT (SWCNT)
In a SWCNTs only one graphene sheet is used to from the nanotubes. They have diameter
close to one nanometer and tube length may very millions of times longer.
EX. Metallic and semiconducting, Armchair, zigzag and chiral
2. Multi walled CNT (MWCNT)
multi MWCNT is multiple rolled layers or cylindrical nano tube of graphene.
PROPERTIES OF CARBON NANOTUBE
 Extremely strong
 100 times stronger than steel.
 Six times lighter than steel. 10^5 times thinner than
human hair .
 Very high density strength.
 Having very low density.
 Special electronic and mechanical properties.
APPLICATION OF CARBON NANOTUBE
CNT are used for making strong light weight composite materials.
Used in lithium ion batteries.
In making conducting polymers in making chemical sensors.
In making water proof and bullet proof jackets.
CNT films are used in making display of computer.
