This project aims to reduce obesity and costs to the NHS. Obesity currently costs the NHS £4 billion per year, expected to rise to £6 billion. The proposal involves a program with weight loss monitoring, food awareness classes, and bonuses for weight loss. The goals are to reduce costs, improve patients' quality of life, and promote general health. The project would cost £100,000 over two years and benefit patients, the NHS, the economy, and government. Inaction would lead to continued high costs of obesity-related medical treatments and lost productivity.

Preventing type 2 diabetes in england, pop up uni, 2pm, 2 september 2015NHS England
Expo is the most significant annual health and social care event in the calendar, uniting more NHS and care leaders, commissioners, clinicians, voluntary sector partners, innovators and media than any other health and care event.
Expo 15 returned to Manchester and was hosted once again by NHS England. Around 5000 people a day from health and care, the voluntary sector, local government, and industry joined together at Manchester Central Convention Centre for two packed days of speakers, workshops, exhibitions and professional development.
This year, Expo was more relevant and engaging than ever before, happening within the first 100 days of the new Government, and almost 12 months after the publication of the NHS Five Year Forward View. It was also a great opportunity to check on and learn from the progress of Greater Manchester as the area prepares to take over a £6 billion devolved health and social care budget, pledging to integrate hospital, community, primary and social care and vastly improve health and well-being.
More information is available online: www.expo.nhs.uk

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

1. Spend on health now to save on
health costs later. A project
proposal by Trevor Shaw
K0953840
2. Obesity is now a major problem in
the united Kingdome today and a
major drain on the NHS.
• Obesity costs the NHS a staggering £4 billion pounds per year and
this figure is set to rise to over £6 billion, according to the Prime
Minister David Cameron.
• The BBC News suggest that costs to the British economy is set to
rise to £22 billion.
3. Obesity causes a whole host of
medical problems for the patient
obese patients may also suffer from a whole host of debilitating
conditions associated with their obesity, this could potentially
include:-
• sleep apnoea.
• Type one or two diabetes.
• High blood pressure.
• Coronary heart conditions.
• Poor blood circulation.
• Increased risk of some cancers.
• Bone joint damage.
4. The Aims of this project.
• Reduce the number of people requiring CPAP devices by
10% per year, in the target group, by introducing a
program of monitory bonuses for weight loss and food
awareness classes.
• Raise the Trust’s profile as progressive forward thinking
Trust that treats not just the patient’s symptoms but also
the causes of the symptoms.
• Reduce obesity in the target population.
• Help 50 patients per year increase their quality of life and
give them an improvement in the quality of their health.
5. The objectives of this project
are
• Reduce the financial burden on the NHS, by
reducing obesity in the target group.
• Promote the fitness and wellbeing for the
patients, to a level that will produce a positive
effect on their health.
• Promote the general health for the participating
patients and hope this has some effect on their
families and friends health.
• Reduce the burden on the NHS and industry for
the patients in the target group, within two years.
6. How we will measure the success
of the project
• The patient’s own doctor will be asked to draft a report on
the patient’s health before and after their participation to
assess any change in the health of the patient.
• Annual review of the number of patients attending the
CPAP clinic will be an indicator of the success of the project.
• A patient questionnaire will be generated to gauge what
the patient thinks they have gained for participation in the
project.
• A review Trust wide could be generated annually to gauge
the project’s impact on other obesity related illnesses such
as diabetes and coronary heart complaints.
7. This project will deliver.
• A reduction in the amount of hospital support
needed annually for each member of the
target group participating in this project.
• Increases quality of life for each member of
the target group.
• Substantial weight loss for each member of
the target group.
• A reduction of burden on the NHS due to
obesity in the target group.
8. The solution to the obesity
problem.
Get the patients fit and well though a program
of
1. Diet with the help of the dietetics
department.
2. Exercise with the help and support of the
physiotherapy department
3. Reward the patients for their efforts in
loosing weight.
9. What will this project cost to run
• The total budget requested for this project would be £100,000 this
figure could be broken down as follows:-
• A new excel database needs to be set up and made available to all
the departments involved with this project, this will cost £100.
• A temporary two year post will be created for a ward Clerk’s This
will cost the project approximately £15,000 per year and will equate
to £ 30,000 over the two years of the project.
• patient reward, it is expected that 50 patients will be selected for
this project and it is hoped they will lose around 10 stones per
patient. giving a total expenditure of £50,000.
• new patient weighing scales, total cost for the scales will not exceed
£200
• mail system and literature to be sent to the patients periodically it is
expected that over the 2 years of the project this will not amount to
more than £10,000
10. Who will gain from this project
• The patients, with help and support they will go on to a
longer, healthy, fitter life, free from many of the problems
associated with obesity.
• The NHS, obesity costs the NHS a staggering £4 billion
pounds per year and this figure is set to rise to over £6
billion,
• The British economy, obesity costs the British economy £22
billion per year.
• The patient themselves getting fit, well, healthy and free
from medical problems
• the government, getting people fit and healthy and back
into work could be seen as a way of reducing the number of
people dependant on the benefit system.
11. Can we afford to do nothing
• The cost of a bariatric wheel chair £250.
• The cost of a bariatric hospital bed is approximately £4000.
• The cost of a CPAP device is approximately £400.
• The cost of an intensive care bed for one day approximately
£1000.
• The cost of gastric surgery is approximately £7500.
• The cost of heart arterial bypass surgery is £5000 to £25000
dependant on the number of bypasses required.
• The cost to the NHS as a whole for obesity related illness is
£4 billion per year rising to £6 billion.
• The costs to the British economy from obesity each year is
estimated at £22 billion
