Knights were heavily armored soldiers who fought on horseback during the Middle Ages. Only wealthy nobles could afford to be knights, as the armor, weapons, and war horses were very expensive. The primary role of a knight was to fight battles for their lord, using weapons like longswords, lances, and blunt weapons from horseback, similar to samurai in Japan. Originally, knights protected pilgrims during journeys to holy lands, but after the Crusades they became a lower order of nobility, often receiving land and titles from their lord in exchange for service.
