CHOOSING
AN IDEA
Genre types-
Performance.
• Firstly we looked at the style of genre we could use.
In our research we looked into performance videos. This
style of video involves the artist performing eg. singing
and dancing and generally performing to the song.An
example of this music video is ‘Love OnTop-Beyonce’.
This video shows the artist performing her song in a plain
setting involving costume changes.
However this style of video can become quite boring as it
uses repeated shots and repeated movements which can
be boring to watch again and again in 3 minutes.
Therefore we decided not to look further in this style of
genre as we believed it would not give us the ability to get
a high grade.
Pros Cons
Entertaining Repetitive
High budgeted.
Genre types
– Narrative.
• The majority of music videos I have researched have
held some sort of narrative.
Normally within a music video the narrative relates to the
song and therefore normally links to the use of emotion.
For example a sad song normally has a video with a
narrative that follows the lyrics throughout. An example
of this type of video is ‘The OneThat Got Away – Katy
Perry’ as the narrative follows the lyrics of the song.
Pros Cons
Relatable narrative Can become boring depending
on storyline.
Ability to be original.
Genre types
– Narrative.
• We looked further into music videos with narratives
and looked at different styles of emotions that a
narrative can follow.
I put some research into happier upbeat songs that would
have the ability to have fun narratives.Types of happy
narratives we looked at involved the youth of teenagers,
flashbacks and memories and mainly young rebellion and
fun experiences. An example of this style of music video is
‘Calling – LewisWatson’ and ’Robbers –The 1975’.These
video do not necceserily have a narrative to them and
resemble teenage fun and also use multiple shooting
techniques. This is most likely the style of video we will
create.
Pros Cons
Relatable to target audience Can appear
unprofesional unless
done right.
Visually pleasing
Low budget
Gripping
