Service learning involves volunteering with non-profit organizations as part of a class and reflecting on the experience, unlike simple community service. It gives students the opportunity to learn the importance of and become part of their community. Students often do not have time to volunteer due to school and work or are unaware of where to volunteer or the importance of doing so. Service learning is crucial for character building, teaches valuable career skills, keeps students occupied by contributing to a good cause, and can improve grades. Those who do not volunteer miss out on experience, community interaction, awareness of community needs, and benefiting themselves, others, and the environment.
