Genre signifiers
The genre signifiers Orphanage is thriller/mystery, because of this the film is full of
mystery scenes. For example when the narrator is talking about kids seeing a hidden
world that no adults can see. This atomically grabs the audience attention to wanting to
know more of this mystery behaviour.

The trailer starts with normal equilibrium, happy mum and son taking a walk down by the
seaside. 0:15 into the trailer, the sounding changes from peaceful to this sound tense
music and you start to hear noises of kids and the young boy called Simon running off
into tunnel with his mum shouting after him, from 0:20 of the trailer there a voiceover,
the narrator voice is very deep , edgy and scary when he goes into describing about these
kids see by also showing the audience what that thing is, this yet again grips our
attention.

                                        Enigma codes
                                        • Who’s that kid with the sack cloth mask ?
                                        • What has happened to the Simon?
                                        • Why’s the mum watching these videos ?
                                        • Why do kids like to play in the dark?
The Narrative
The narrative of the trailer is that a woman and son move into a new house, this new house
reeks of creepiness and as he starts to develop strong friendships with his imaginary friends
his mother worries. This ends in the disappearance of the little boy and mother undertakes
a major investigation to save him. Essentially a ghost story we follow Laura as she tries to
find her son.

                                            Music and sound
At the start of the trailer there’s very calm piano
music, this doesn’t give anything away.
As the trailer goes on the music changes into
something tense and the sound speeds up with
different type of beats for the different scenes
                                            shown.
