Homework Summer Term 2 Key Theme: Presentation Year 8

This ½ term’s homework is going to be based on what you have learned in History this year.

You will present this in class on____________________________

What have I got to do?

As a group, you have got to give a 3 minute presentation to the class explaining the most significant
event or person in History that we have either studied about or have not studied about in the time
period 1485-1900.

SIGNIFICANT means how important something is
Everyone must

Place the person or event that you are presenting about in context (the time period that
        they are from)
Describe the key events in their life/ of the event itself
Explain why you have chosen this event/person.
Explain why this event/person is significant. (To prove this you could consider: how many
people were affected, how long they were affected, how deeply they were affected, what
people at the time thought, what people in later times thought, what other events it led to,
what aspects of life were changed eg wages, medicine, science, religion, homes etc.)

Some people will be able to:

Use sources to prove your point
Explain the significance of the event
Compare this to other events/people to prove their significance.
Choose an event or person that you have not studied at school, and say why we should
have. (Warning: this is a tricky option because you will need to go away and learn something
new, unless you k now something about it already).

What is the teacher expecting to see?

Everyone in your group will participate.
I am expecting you to spend ½ hour per week on this task so it should be clear that you have
spent 3 hours on the task. If you spend more that is your choice, but you need to be
organised enough that it does not affect other homework you have to complete for other
        subjects.
I will be expecting visuals to be well presented (clear pictures, legible fonts and colours, clear
video clips etc) and that you will have used spell check.
No cutting and pasting unless it is a source (therefore cannot be altered).
Use of your public speaking skills eg don’t read out loud from the power point!
Clear focus on the task (significance), rather than a life story or description.
