As we are discussing Fast Track Translation/Commercialization Projects, we assume that technology was
already at TRL3/4 when the project started. Current Project and its Assessment is focused on maturation to
TRL6+ and Transition.
Accordingly, the PI should focus on a crisp communication of:
1. What is the unmet business/social need that they are addressing through this project?
2. What is their proposed technical solution towards meeting this unmet need?
3. What was the state of the technology before this project started – prior art?
4. What technical breakthroughs are needed to get to viable solution (see #2)?
5. What are the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) or Measures of Success for this technology maturation.
• Please quantify the starting point, end-goal of each KPI, and where is the Team today in that journey
6. What was their (original) project plan to enable this technology maturation:
1. Tasks should be linked to KPIs
2. How is the Team doing w.r.t. the plan. Changes are perfectly OK, but need an explanation.
7. Highlight key accomplishments and challenges; also any help that the Team may need
These questions may appear difficult at first, but quantification is the only way to have a meaningful dialogue
