9. CURRENT OCCUPATIONS
wakes up at 5:30 am to
wake up 2 of her
grandchildren.
A third grandchild, who
lives down the street,
comes every morning to
eat breakfast and get
ready for school with the
other kids.
After those grandchildren
get on the bus, she crawls
back into bed with her
great grandchild until 10
a.m.
She then makes breakfast
for her great grandchild,
has coffee, and lets her
watch cartoons until lunch
at noon.
She then takes her outside
to play, and sometimes
takes her fishing, on the
pontoon boat, or on a
small adventure.(J.Z., personal communication, October 28,
10. CURRENT OCCUPATIONS
The other children get back
around 3:30 pm

favorite TV show at 4, Dr.
Phil.

cleans the living room, and
gets the children ready to do
homework while watching

11. CURRENT OCCUPATIONS
still enjoys boating,
bonfires, fishing, and
cleaning deer meat
Spending time with her
family
she no longer dances and
does not enjoy music.
She also doesn’t get to play
cards very often because
she is always taking care of
her great grandchild.
Since the original interview,
her oldest granddaughter
as well as her great
granddaughter have moved
out.
This has given her much
more free time, and
much less stress.
(J.Z., personal communication, October 28, 2014)
12. MOTIVATIONAL THEORY
A motivational theory that is closely linked to
the interviewee would be Maslow’s
motivational theory and Hierarchy of Needs:
It includes the motivations to meet :
physiological needs,
safety needs,
belongingness/ socialization needs,
esteem needs, and
self actualization needs (Snell, 2007).
(Snell, 2007).
14. SUGGESTED ACTIVITY #1
Volunteering would enhance this client’s life by
allowing her to have some time away from home
and to engage with people other than family members.
I would suggest that she volunteer three or four days per
week at
Cross City Rehab and Health Center,
for approximately three or four hours at a time.
A good time would be when her grandchildren are at
school.
It would decrease stress, increase productivity, sense
of self, self-efficacy, and make her overall happier.
Volunteering would allow her reach the highest level
on Maslow’s scale, which is the level of self
(Snell, 2007).
15. SUGGESTED ACTIVITY #2
Card night once a week
Benefit:
socialize with friends,
have some adult time.
it was one of her favorite hobbies throughout her
entire life, and she has not been able to play much
due to lack of time.
This would also follow Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs
It would be create a sense of social belonging,
increase self-esteem, and
would also help her reach levels of self actualization.

Editor's Notes
If she did both suggested activities, she could invite those that she volunteers with to play cards on card night. I believe both activities, especially when combined, have the potential to drastically increase the interviewee’s sense of life satisfaction, and happiness.
