Nidec Corporation is a Japanese manufacturing company specializing in electric motors. It produces small precision motors as well as large industrial motors used in appliances, vehicles, and infrastructure. Nidec is testing solar-powered submersible pumping systems for irrigation in India to help farmers and reduce diesel consumption. Prototypes were installed in 2016 and connected to monitoring systems. The target market is India, Southwest Asia, the Middle East and Africa due to Nidec's high efficiency motors, pumps, inverters and IoT technologies suited for solar pumping applications.

Solar pump technology
・Such system with abundant water would give additional
livelihood to the farmers apart from saving diesel, reducing
carbon foot print and improving environment.
・There are about 18 million pumps in the country which are
connected with grid power and consume more than 20 per cent
of total electricity generated in the county.
・There are around 7 million diesel pump-sets, which consume
more than 4 billion liters of diesel every year.

・3 sets of prototype systems of solar submersible pumps were installed at the end of
January, 2016 with the support of METI.
・Test sites were prepared by Ministry of Agriculture.
・We have succeeded with data transmission originated by the system to PC’s and/or
Smart phones (using IoT).
