Area of Composite Figures
I. Objectives:
 Find the area of composite
figures by any two or more of the
following: triangle, square,
rectangle, circle, and semi- circle
( M6ME-IIIh-89)
II. Drill:
A. Identify the figures below:
1. 3.
2. 4.
B. Match the figures in Column A with their
corresponding
formula in finding their area in Column B.
Column A
1. Triangle
2. Square
3. Rectangle
4. Circle
5. Parallelogram

III. Review: (Group Game:)
Solve each situation. Show complete solution.
1.What is the area of a square garden with a side
of
9 meters?
2. A circular table has a radius of 3 meters.
What is the area of the table.
3. A triangular structure has a base of 35 meters
and
a height of 73 meters. What is its area?
4. A parallelogram has a base of 28 meters and a
height of 16 meters. What is its area?
5. The length of a shoe box is 14 inches. Its width
is
half of its length. What is the area?
Motivation.
A. As you learned in your previous grades or lessons, the
area of a figure is the amount of flat space that the figure
covers. Area is measured in square units, such as square
inches or square centimeters.
Do you remember how to find the area of:
1. Rectangle (A= l x w)
2. Square (A= s x s)
3. Parallelogram ( A=B x h)
4. Triangle (A=1/2 x b x h)
5. Circle ( A=πr^2)
B. Present this façade of the house
The pupils will describe the façade of the house.
Presentation
What is a composite figure?
A figure ( or shape) that can be divided into
more than one of the basic figures is said to be a
composite figure (or shape)
Father wants to paint the façade of the
house, he needs to find out the area so that
he would know the amount of paint to buy.
The side of the square is 12 meters and the
height of the triangle is 13 meters. What is
the area of the façade of the house?
Read:
1. . What figures are used in the structure?
Square and triangle
2. To find the total area of the structure, we need to
find the area of each figure.
Solution:
Area of the square = s x s
= 12 x 12
= 144 square meter
Area of the triangle = 1/2bh
= ½ ( 12x13)
= 1 (156)
2
= 78 square meters
Area of façade of the house = area of square + area of
triangle
= 144 + 78
= 222 square meters
