Mother Teresa was born in 1910 and left home at 18 to join the Sisters of Loreto in Ireland. She went to India in 1939 where she began teaching and later founded the Missionaries of Charity, which grew to over 4,500 volunteers in 133 countries operating homes for the chronically ill, orphanages, and schools. Mother Teresa was renowned for her humanitarian efforts helping children in India through education and was the recipient of the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize for her work founding the Missionaries of Charity.
